Diarra's gone to lens

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Oh well if he doesnt want to play for the European Champions thats just tough sh.it, would have liked for him to come back meself, cant beleive he never even played for us, another waste of money along with the 4 million for Cheyrou whos also gone :Oo: .

French outfit Lens have completed the permanent capture of Alou Diarra from Liverpool.

The midfielder spent a productive season on loan at Lens last term and the club had made it one of their summer priorities to sign Diarra permanently.

Lens thought they had missed out recently, as it had been claimed that Reds chief Rafa Benitez had urged the midfielder to return to Liverpool and fight for his place on Merseyside.

Diarra took time out to mull over his options, but finally pledged his future to Lens on Thursday by signing a four-year contract.

The deal is worth €3 million to Liverpool after Lens exercised their option to buy.

Diarra moved to Liverpool in 2002 from Bayern Munich, but never made an appearance for The Reds.

Shame that - I would've liked to see him 'join' us. Only heard good reports of him this season, but I supose he would have effectively been fourth choice in midfield so that's probably made his mind up...

At least it's a bit more cash in the coffers...:)

He never featured under Hitzfeld at Munich followed by zero appearences under Houllier then Benitez at Liverpool. They cant all be wrong surely. The lads obviously found his level at Lens.

Depends...he may have got a signing on fee, his agent definitely got paid a fee, and chances are, we probably helped pay his wages while he was in France.

All the same, I don't think we lost money on him though.

By all reports from last year, he supposed to have a great season at Lens, the (new Viera :glare: ) so if he does turn out to be that great then we will have f@cked up, but then again he may turn out to be the (new Bruno Zidane) then we where well shut. :D

I've seen him play several times, including for the french national team.  He's solid and good in the tackle, but thats about it.  I agree with others that he's probably found his level at lens and that Hitzfeld, Houllier and Benitez can't all have been wrong.

Realistically, with gerrard, hamann and alonso he won't get a look in here and he knew it.  Good luck to him :)

Leons got a point, he might have showed potntial and looked good at lens (enough to get a french cap) but how many players have we bought from the french league and never made it england remember diomede and Cheyrou have caps for france......getting a player on a free, him never playing a game for you, and then selling him for 1.8 million seems like good business all round.......as long as Lens have paid his wages the last two years.

nice to see we've made a profit on a player!  :p

now all we have to do is get rid of the rest of the trash and bring in some quality players....(opens the door for Diao)

Yes.I never knew he existed. We gained 1.8 m for nothing.Great business eye.We should do more of it.

Signing virtually unknown players for free and loan them out. When the loaner likes them, sell them.Great funding ideas.

Where did Cheyrou go and for how much ? I heard Sochaux were interested but heard nothing since.

Diarra would have learnt a lot from Didi Hamann had he stayed, but in letting him go i thing Rafa has something in mind and i trust him although i can only see players leaving but no one coming. The management staff must be preparing a surprise. Don't you think ?
