If Brazil win the world Cup in 2006, and can keep the likes of Adriano, Ronaldinho, Robinho and Kaka healthy for 2010, then this current team could well eclipse the great 1970 side of Pele, Jairzinho etc.

Robinho is only 19, Adriano 22 and Kaka and Ronaldinho are both under the age of 25 also. in 2010 they will be at the peak of their careers, and if Brazil can keep bringing up good young players like Cicinho who has just burst onto the scene then the next 2 world cups could be the showcase for perhaps the greatest ever international team.

Argentina is also looking very good in terms of bringing up young players like Tevez, Figueroa, Mascherano and Coloccini. The next 5 years could well be dominated by the two big South American nations.

brazil had no width. mexico were good but brazil shoulda won the game easy but didnt have the outlets.
wouldnt say mexico for world champions just yet

LFC#1 well said i agree with you on that front, but did you know that birmingham snapped figueroa up 2 years ago and he left without playing a game because "he wasnt good enough" haha their mistake!

as far as the world cup is concerned i dont see it being brazil or argentina next year, i really feel we(england) have a good chance of winning it! The years following that though will be interesting as the likes of Robinho, Kaka and Tevez will gain experience and will cause a lot of problems for opposition teams.

What about right mid??

Beckham's been useless there for england since he went to real and took up centre mid on a regular basis. And Sven's not got the guts to drop him coz he's captain.

And it's not just about the individual weaknesses of players with england (because they DO look good on paper), its the fact that they rarely play well as a team, often far too static.

Maybe if the media stopped building up ridiculous expectations for them they'd actually win something. Thats England's problem, they think they're better than they actually are and expect to beat teams rather than earning the right to beat them.

thats a good point that actually mate ya see wenever u see an england team on paer u think they can beat anyone but we do play boringly sometimes, and svens choice of backup is extraordinary

England has a very good team, possibly the best defensive line in World Football at the minute. Midfield is also quite strong, and Owen and Rooney up front with Defoe as backup is a quality forward line.

However from what I saw at Euro 2004, England will not win the World Cup with Sven in charge. His tactics againt the top teams was perplexing. Againxt both France and Portuga; he basically conceded they were better teams and played a very defensive, boring style of football, hoping to score goals on the counter attack. England on paper have one of the strongest teams around, BUT Sven employs tactics as if they are some minnow.

Brazil have just scraped through to the semi's, with a 2-2 draw over Japan. Brazil were the better team for much of the game, but Japan were always in it and created chances. In fact Marcos made a good save from Oguro in injury tme which would've knocked
Brazil out had he scored.

So the Semi Finals will be:

Germany vs Brazil
Argentina vs Mexico.

Brazil through to final after tough win over Germany, 3-2.

Adriano scored two and got Brazils' penalty whch Ronaldinho scored. Podolski and Ballack (pen) scored for Germany.

Pretty free flowing game, pretty even on possesion and chances, Brazil had the slightly more giult-edged chances and took them.

Adriano was man of the match and was a constant threat. Teh sacry thing he looks pretty kanckered from a long seaosn with Inter. He was playing in the Coppa Italia Final a few days before Brazil's first game in the Confederations Cup, yet he is still playing very well.

the Second semi-final Mexico vs Argentina is tonight.

Jurgen Klinsmann had thought very carefully about how to have a real go at Brazil and Germany did just that. I am sure he and his players will feel very disappointed to have lost this game over the 90 minutes.
Their whole structure was interesting and a definite sign of Klinsmann’s positive thinking was playing Bernd Schneider at left-back. He had two screen players in Torsten Frings and Fabian Ernst, while up front there was one out-and-out striker in Kevin Kuranyi. But also he had three players from middle to front in Michael Ballack, Sebastian Deisler and Lukas Podolski and they played a very significant part in the way things went.

Deisler was magnificent in the first half - he played very well down the right and posed major problems for Brazil. He really did run himself into the ground on a hot day and it was no surprise when he came off near the end. Podolski was also a threat from a deep position while Ballack was inspirational. On another day he could easily have been the hero for Germany.

Germany dominated possession in the first half, which was a change from Brazil’s earlier matches. Overall the Brazilians had only 47 per cent of possession and their two goals in the first half both came from set-plays. Unlike in previous matches, Ze Roberto was rarely seen as an attacking force and instead he sat deep with Emerson.

Of course, they still had moments of individual brilliance – Ronaldinho would go on a run, then Adriano – and one area where they did have some joy was down their right. Schneider was defending Germany’s left side and a lot of Brazil’s build-up play came down that flank. Their penalty came from there too.

Having fought back twice to equalise, Germany had the momentum going into the second half and they really went for it in the early part of the second period and looked the team most likely to win. But Brazil stayed calm; they can always produce something and this is what happened here. They broke quickly, Adriano got past his man and shot into the bottom corner. It was like the sucker punch in a boxing match.

Near the end Germany threw everything at Brazil, which left more space for Brazil to try and pick them off on the counterattack. Brazil will be very pleased with themselves as they stayed together collectively and then one of their talented individuals produced something. This is a quality Brazil have: they are able to play collectively but can also call on moments of brilliance and this is what won them the match in Nuremberg.

The score at the end of the 120 mins was 1-1, the 7th penalty kick saved by the Arg keeper Lux...

Correct except it was the 6th penalty not th 7th.
