This is getting to the point where Liverpool are selling players but not replacing players in time for pre-season. We have some games in Japan plus qualifiers soon after, we don't have much time. Even though we are the European Champion, we still don't have the finances to raid the transfer market to replenish stocks. This is giving me the irrates. We are constantly linked with some huge high profile players, but they are all wanting us to put up with some ridiculous salaries. I'd love Raul to come, but if Rafa want to increase his stocks, we must look for more lower priced players if we want to increase numbers. I hear you Rafa, it's frustrating to only have 20-30 million to spend and replenish stocks. I'm looking at you Mr. Chairman.

From the OS:
RAFAEL BENITEZ will step up his attempts to bring Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt to Anfield as he looks to relieve a frustrating summer in the transfer market so far.

The Liverpool manager is finding it difficult to make any headway as he plans an overhaul of his side in time for the new season, with his transfer kitty of around £20million allowing little room for manouervre.

El Stinger: no offence meant mate, but you should write for a tabloid!

There is absolutely zero source to your story other than the "OS" calling it a "frustrating summer"!!  :D

There is absolutely nothing, nothing what so ever in this only a cloud of smoke.

Yeah but it gets the crowd going mate, its a forum, relax. Arent you a bit cheesed off at the transfers this summer? With all the talk going on about signing this player and linked to that player, bloody hell, this is my point. Vent anger here.

I really don't how fans can get upset with the chairman or the board. I think they have been more than generous with transfer funds. We're looking at spending around 65 million plus (plus including the money we might get from any players we sell) in two seasons. That's alot of money. And from my point of view, more than enough money for rebuilding. We don't need all this "Galactico" :censored: at liverpool. We shouldn't be looking for star overpriced players for every position on the team, but players that have skill and fit into the mould Rafa wants the team to play and be. 30 million is enough for a recognized striker, right wing, central defender and goalkeeper IMO. Maybe a squad player, too. Also could look for frees. The problem would be figuring the wages in, but with already a couple departures and more soon to be...there is no problem. The money we get from sales can also go towards just "bettering" our options of possible players to pick from for some positions. The positions I named are our key problems that need sorting out, though.

Anyway, waiting around to see what new players will be arriving is indeed frustrating. I'm anxious for next season already, with the high we ended last one on.

So which one is it? plus OR including?

Guys - you read too many papers! People say things like, we ONLY have 20mil to spend. 20mil??? ONLY??

Does anyone remember that Liverpool made a financial loss last season? We made a financial loss of £21million last season which included paying Houllier £4million for the rest of his contract after he was sacked. There is an incorrect belief that you earn about £40million for going through the whole Champions League and winning it but, the Champions League this season generated a total of £20.5 million for Liverpool. What with the losses of last year, our win in the Champions league pretty much cancels out last years debt.

To have £20million to spend is amazing considering last years financial plight. We need to stop throwing big figures about like everyone has millions to spend. Juventus announced they have no money and they will only spend if they sell first. This is from the team that just won the Italian League!! Lets face it, £40million is what Chelsea (through Abramovich) and Real Madrid (through local government and other investors) have to spend. Barcelona, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Manure and Bayern Munich have budgets way less than 20mil to spend this summer. We talk about that amount as though it is small but it is not. Reality is that it is incredible amount of money. The Champions league has made everyone forget that only a year ago, we were actively looking for "significant" investment and that £20.5 from our Champions league victory is not anywhere near the figure that we needed.

Agree, give it time, as i've posted in a previous thread, Rafa only got the news about the champs league last week, and players were also on international duty.
It takes time to sort transfers and i am happy that he is not wasting the transfer budget. But we all want to know who is signing and i agree it is frustrating waiting.

Isnt that from television rights.

U can probably add at least another 10 mill from gate receipts and advertising revenues.

We'll probably not know exactly what he had to spend, until the beginning of September, maybe not even then.

Frustrated Benitez to step up chase for Kuyt

Jun 16 2005

By David Prior Daily Post Staff

Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt

RAFAEL BENITEZ will step up his attempts to bring Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt to Anfield as he looks to relieve a frustrating summer in the transfer market so far.

The Liverpool manager is finding it difficult to make any headway as he plans an overhaul of his side in time for the new season, with his transfer kitty of around £20million allowing little room for manouervre.

He has, however, made the 24-year-old Kuyt his number one target - but only if he can force Feyenoord down from their current £10m valuation to around £7-8m.

Kuyt, who scored 29 goals last season in the Dutch league, has already voiced his desire to come to Merseyside but unless Liverpool can lower his club's asking price, Benitez will have to look elsewhere.

But he will mount one last effort to persuade Feyenoord to release their star striker and claim a player he has wanted for some time.

The Spaniard has already had to cool his interest in Peter Crouch after Southampton demanded £7m for the tall frontman's services.

And reports in Spain yesterday suggested Real Madrid were monitoring Benitez's difficulties closely - and were prepared to test his willingness to keep hold of Steven Gerrard.

Real are known to have placed the Liverpool captain at the top of their shopping list and, one report claimed, would test the Anfield club's resolve in their upcoming contract negotiations with Gerrard - and then offer highly--rated Juanfran as part of any deal.

Gerrard this week insisted "the ball is in Liverpool's court" regarding his new deal, which he confirmed he intends to sign before the start of next season.

Ideally, Benitez wants Gerrard to stay, but he is also understood to be interested in several Real players - including winger Juanfran - and will face a difficult decision were Real to submit a £30m-plus bid for his skipper.

Unlikely to interest Benitez, however, is Luis Figo.

Qatar club Al Rayyan claim they are in a bidding war with Liverpool for the 32-year-old, who could become available on the cheap this summer, albeit on high wages.

His financial demands would probably put a strain on Liverpool, and Benitez told the El Mundo Deportivo newspaper:

"There are many people at Real Madrid that we are aware of, but we really know our limitations."

Raul was also suggested as a target last week, but he is considered by president Florentino Perez as the embodiment of the Spanish giants and seems destined to spend his entire career in Madrid.

"There are players that cannot leave and there are others we do not want," Benitez added.

Jamie Carragher, meanwhile, has backed Benitez to build a team capable of winning the Premiership title - the last of their 18 league crowns was in the old First Division in 1990.

"We want to qualify for the Champions League group stages, but we also want to challenge for the title," said Carragher.

"I am sure the manager will be looking to change things because he has come from Valencia who won the league, so he's used to winning."

If you read between the lines, this suggests that Rafa could use Gerrard to finance his rebuilding efforts.

How do we have less to spend this year than last year when this year we've won the CL and earned huge amounts of money?

I believe its more around the range of 30-45 million pounds.

Stinger.......

He was just giving another source.

Here is another.
IC Liverpool

Same article.

So it seems we don't have the 10 million extra to overpay for the transfer players. I think that he is being prudent and using this as a way to make people back off of ludicrous rumors. How many bogus players are being linked with Liverpool?

Go Rafa.
Mourinho was customizing his flashy blue racing car -- applying the finishing touches of go-faster stripes, aerodynamic spoilers and a fat f@ck you exhaust -- while on his red car, Benitez was trying to glue together a broken chassis, repair bodywork and replace burst tyres.

The way I phrased that, I'm sure it wasn't that difficult to understand. Where you could take away that "plus" means/includes whatever extra money that liverpool made from sales, added on to the figure I was saying...

Were you trying to be cute or something??  :D

Look at the boss's track record on transfers since he joined and it should give all of us no worries on this front. Alonso and Garcia were instrumental in bringing the CL home to Anfield. When he did shell out on those players that perhaps haven;t been a total success (aka Josemi and Pelegreno) he didn't do a "cheyrou" or a "diouf" and bust the bank on them so relax guys.

To rush out and spend "big" out of desperation would be foolish and in the words of JBG Rafa;'s no fool :D

I'm with Dalglish...Rafa seems to be acting prudently.

Only thing is that all of this delay in making a transfer breakthrough is making me nervous, as it should to the many fans here.

We read and hear that Everton had signed 2 players, Birmingham signed Forsell, Newcastle had signed Parker etc. but our beloved club had not signed anyone yet. Just worried that we may not make any notable signings until it's too late.

I am sure Rafa and Parry are doing their best for Liverpool.
