Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Emre is a good player and definately good enough to play for The Reds. He is the reason why Davids is stuck on the bench at Inter Milan. What I don't understand though is how he would fit into The Reds first team squad. He plays central midfield and he is not going to come from the Inter Milan First team squad where he is playing all the time to sit on the bench behind Alonso and Gerrard.

Also, Boa Morte? Yes, he does some interesting things but he sometimes he is completely lost and confuses himself. His ability is as unpredicatable and unreliable as Paulo Wanchope. If we paid 10million for him, they would see us coming and be laughing. Remember, Henry cost Arsenal 10million and Robben cost Chelsea 9million. Still think Boa Morte is worth 10million? ???? I think not. Save that 10mil, add some more and see if we can get Wright-Phillips to replace that piece of  :veryangry Harry Kewell who seems to spend his time suing Lineker over nothing and appearing on MTV cribs saying that he has earned his home with all his hard work instead of playing his heart out in our beloved No7 shirt.

By the way, Real can easily sell Owen for more than double what we did. The reason is that we did not sell him at his true value, we sold him at the best price we could get for someone who had less than a year left on their contract.

I see we have been linked to Malbranque this morning (lfv.tv). Houllier was always a big fan and i know a lot of people on these boards wanted to see him here. He's had a pretty awful season for Fullham although i believe a lot of that may have been due to injuries. He's a player i would like to see at this club - A skillful, quick & intelligent footballer who could do a job in the middle or out on the right.

this could be interesting in a baros swap deal...

Michael Essien's agent has admitted that the player is keen on a switch to the Premiership but fears Lyon's asking price could scupper any potential move.

The French champions have so far resisted Chelsea's bid to sign the 22-year-old Ghana midfielder.

Fabien Piveteau told BBC Sport: "The problem is that Chelsea want him but, for now, the bid is too small for Lyon.

"If possible he would prefer to come to England. He speaks English, he likes English football."

Essien has so far declined to sign a contract extension but Lyon are determined not to let him go without a fight.

"Lyon want big, big money for the player," added Piveteau. "The problem for Chelsea is when they arrive for discussions with another club the price is doubled."

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal would interest him

Essien's agent Fabien Piveteau

Piveteau said Essien would consider a move elsewhere in England but feels the transfer fee is likely to put most clubs off.

He added: "Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal would interest him.

"I know the Arsenal coach likes him very well but, for now, there have been no discussions.

"At Manchester I had discussions with their coach two months ago but after that there has been no news.

"For Liverpool there could be a solution because Lyon want Milan Baros and it may be possible to organise for Baros to go to Lyon and Michael to go to Liverpool - and the same for Chelsea with Didier Drogba."

Lyon dismissed a proposed swap deal involving Drogba on Monday.

Their president Jean-Michel Aulas told sports newspaper l'Equipe: "If chief executive Peter Kenyon proposes a deal because Chelsea have signed Eto'o or Adriano, I would listen.

"But I don't believe in Father Christmas."

Last season Ghana international Essien was voted Player of the Year by France's National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP).

Meanwhile, Aulas has also confirmed their interested in Bordeaux's Marouane Chamakh and Baros.

"We have already made one, big offer for Chamakh. We want him, he's our priority," he said.

"We're waiting to hear from Baros and I plan to go to Prague to see him this week with coach Gerard Houllier."

I'd sign Boa morte if it was for 4 million, to say his end product is not good enough surprises me, he scores plenty of goals and is always a threat.
He isn't exactly a priorty though being a left winger when theres Riise and Kewell, but he would be a useful addition to the squad.
He's also a player that guarantees 100 % (unlike Kewell)

Liverpool have reportedly rejected the chance to buy back Real Madrid striker Michael Owen, but the Premiership's big three remain interested.

Reports in the media suggest that while the European champions were sounded out by a third party acting for Madrid and Owen on the prospect of him returning to Anfield, they have declined the chance.

Real paid just £8m for the striker as he only had one year left on his contract, but the Spanish giants are now looking to sell Owen for close to double that original price.

This is thought to be the deterrant for Liverpool and boss Rafa Benitez, who wants to bring in five or six players this summer to strengthen the squad before an extra-long season.

Serious contact between Owen and Liverpool is understood to have taken place more than a week ago.

But the Reds' lack of interest could leave the door open for Owen to join Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United, who are all believed to be interested in bring the England international back to the Premiership.

Madrid are said to have contacted United in a similar way to Liverpool and Owen has been informed of the Old Trafford club's interest.

If Owen was to come back to the Premiership(and not to us) i'd prefer to see him go to Arsenal out of the top three.

This deal can be consider for us...I heard about Lyon's houllier will like to bring baros back to him and we can get Govou in this transaction. Owen has been linking out from RM and he will be soon appear at EPL. I hope he will join Mancs in the moments. Nice to see him part with the @ssltole Rooney with all their fans can only sit thight without any drinks because they'll already suffer from the ticket. :D
Reds is the sacred colour before this world was born.

From Sky sports ..

"A host of clubs have been linked with Figo's signature including Manchester United, Tottenham, Lyon and Marseille.

But Al Rayyan have now added their name to that list and hope a hugely lucrative financial package could lure him to the Middle East.

However, they accept they will face huge competition for the former Barcelona winger, and claim Liverpool are perhaps best-placed to sign him.

"We are genuinely on the trail of Figo, but Liverpool are also there and will be a difficult rival," Al Rayyan president Ali Al Noaimi told A Bola.

"We are prepared to match the offer of the English, if he accepts it."

Many great players ended their careers in Saudi Arabia (for example Batistuta). It's their way to make some big $$$ at the sunset of their football careers.
If we'll make an offer, and they'll match ours I have no doubt Figo's going to pick us. It's not yet time to hang up his boots.
I still don't want him at Anfield because I think he's overrated but he shouldn't pic Saudi Arabia yet.
