It's funny to see the number of posts slagging Crouch off. I seem to remember an identical reaction many years ago when we bought another "long string of -----" who no one rated because he "was no good on the ground"  "just good in the air". That was John Toshack and he didn't do too bad for us.

I really think that we should give Benitez the respect he deserves and IF he signs him then support him.The time for headless chickens running all over the place with no real purpose is over and if Baros goes somewhere else and scores a hatfull of goals then good on him but the number of passes he's been given and wasted last season was ridiculous.

JohnBull well said.

Not seen you around for a while, you should post more often. While i don't always agree with you (who do i agree with?) you're one of the intelligent breed of posters who is sorely missed on the forum.

@rse licker Stu.

Back on topic, there is another similarity between the two in that both where rejected by Totenham Hotspur at a young age.

Tosh had however notched 100 goals for Cardiff by the age of 21, so was more prolific than Crouch, who at 24 years old boats 58 career goals. So you could argue a more proven goalscorer at the time of the transfer (or possible transfer in Crouch's case) was Toshack.

A lot of people discriminate against crouch because of his height, you can't deny that. He is obviously not bad, has been fantastic last season and gave us a few problems when we played southampton I remember.
It's the price that puts me off, 4-5m? ok
7m? They are on another planet, we can't let Michael Owen go for 8m one season then buy Peter Crouch for 7m the next.
He's had his bad seasons before, and we do not need to be paying this much for him when it is a gamble.
Johnbull is right however, we can talk and speculate but rafa makes the right decisions and whoever he signs I will support and look forward to seeing them pull on our famous shirt.

The price thing is that he is English, and his recent caps did not help.

Crouch has done nothing in his entire career to suggest he is of a similar value to Baros.  Buying him for £7m and selling Baros for £7m would be a MASSIVE mistake.

true leon but crouch has scored 16 goals in the top flight so at least we know he can cope in the top league, when we bought john admittedly he did seem to be scoring every week for cardiff but it was a league down in the (old) second division.
decent point though

I think we will struggle up front this coming season unless we buy a 'Class Striker' !!
Baros is poor and not good enough, Crouch is even worse.
The jury is still out on Cisse, remember he was giving cause for concern on these forum's prior to his untimely accident.
Pongole looks unlikely to make it, Mellor has failed.
We have Morientes, but he is not an Alan Shearer. Rafa should be prepared to break the bank for a sure fire 20 goal a season man and that man is not Crouch for sure !!
I don't know if Club politics would allow, but I would spend £15m to bring back Owen, ahead of any of our current crop and I wouldn't waste a single thought on Crouch.

IMO Baros will stay.

he's valued at £13M.

Crouch is good but that's like buying cheap tires insted of eagle f1s to do the same job... lacks style.
we've only won it 5 times
