Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby dawson99 » Sat Jun 11, 2005 12:47 pm

from sky sports:

Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer looks set to return to French football by signing a two-year contract with Bordeaux.

According to reports in Czech Republic, the former Lens player will meet with officials from the Stade Chaban-Delmas club next week.

The midfielder is due to have a medical on Monday before finalising the terms of his two-year deal with the club.

The moves comes after Smicer was told he can move on from Anfield following the end of his contract with the Merseyside giants.

The 32-year-old ended his six-year spell with The Reds with an instrumental performance in Liverpool's remarkable UEFA Champions League final win over Milan late last month.

Despite revealing he had interest from Premiership clubs Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, Smicer is seemingly happy to return to France and continue his career with Les Girondins.

heres more on that: (from bbc sport)

Everton's Tim Cahill has urged boss David Moyes to move for Australia team-mate Harry Kewell if he leaves Liverpool in the close season.
Kewell, 26, came under fire last season and limped off injured in the Carling Cup and the Champions League finals.

But Cahill said: "I want to make it quite clear that Harry has nothing to prove to anyone and if Liverpool don't want him then we'll have him.

"If Liverpool don't want him, there will be clubs lining up for him."

Kewell was jeered by Liverpool fans when he came off with a groin injury early in the Champions League final win against AC Milan - and he has since undergone surgery.

In contrast to Kewell's disappointment, Cahill had a magnificent first season at Everton after his £2m move from Millwall last summer.

But he remains a committed Kewell supporter, insisting: "He's been injured and I think he's been too honest in coming back too early and wanting to play for his club and wanting to do a job for Liverpool.

"The kid is a great footballer and everyone knows that.

"What he has done in the game speaks for itself. But sometimes things don't happen for you and I think Harry just needs a bit of a break and he'll definitely come back with flying colours.

"When you're injured, you're injured. You can't do anything about it, so I think it's easy to pick faults with players and look for scapegoats.

"I think 'H' just needs to enjoy his summer and come back next year fit."

Cahill is in Germany preparing for the Confederations Cup, with Kewell sidelined.

I'll fookin cry if I see him in a Man U shirt

Real Madrid will test Sir Alex Ferguson's resolve to keep Cristiano Ronaldo this summer by offering £10m-plus Michael Owen for him.

Manchester United boss Ferguson has made no secret of his desire to see Owen link up with England colleague Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford following the Reds' goalscoring problems last season.

And Spanish giants Madrid - still looking their wounds following an early Champions League exit and Barcelona's La Liga title triumph - have made it equally clear they want to freshen up their midfield with Ronaldo.

Real sporting director Arrigo Sacchi said of the 20-year-old Portuguese winger: "The quality that he has and his age mean he would be welcome at any club in the world."

Real coach Wanderley Luxemburgo is just as big a fan, so has instructed Bernabeu bosses to tempt United with a carrot of a cash deal plus Owen, who failed to dislodge Brazil hitman Ronaldo and Spanish forward Raul from their regular first-team spots last season.

Based on your knowledge of other areas of the game, I a going to guess you have never actually seen Milito play and  are basing your opinions based on what has been fed to you through the media.

How you can thus say is better than Gallas is beyond me. Peroanlly I knwo very little baout milito, howwever Gallas is a class act, can play anywhere in the back four.

If Chelsea don't want him, I say we snap him up quickly.

i like Gallas, i'd love him to come to anfield too. most important, in my opinion, is that he IS a proven premiership player. whatever the price is, he wont be a risk. milito/evra/ibanez/etc may come and flop like many others in the past.
