Okocha - Why not?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

with jay jay okocha yet to be offered a new contract by bolton it begs the question of where he will be playing his football next season. okocha still claims that he is waiting for the right offer from any source and when it comes along he will sign. the guy may be 30 but he would is a class act and could certainly do a job for us. if i was liverpool boss i'd snap him up next week for cheap and let him prove that he's not a big fish in a small pond. the problem is the guy has way too much flair and skill for a manager like houllier. no doubt houllier will come out with the same old cr#p like "he's not a liverpool player". would you take the gamble on him? surely he's in a different league to some of the deadwood e.g. smicer, diao, cheyrou, murphy.

if not okocha then joe cole. he's not playing regularly for chelsea and they've gone out today and brought some 20yr old dutch wonderkid from PSV for 12m. cole would be great for us because he can create things out of nothing.

One player is not going to resolve the overall problem, one manager might....... There were people who believed the signing of Kewell and Finnan would give Liverpool the title........
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

i know that. i'm just thinking about players who can improve the overall structure and balance of the team. also, i was realistic when i said that kewell was a great signing for the price we paid. duff proved too expensive in the end. kewell could have been the missing link if houllier actually played him consistently in one position.

I don't see where Okacha would fit in to our team. I always believe in strenghting your weakest points first. We did it in the summer with Kewell and Finnan.

This is the key point.Does anyone trust GH to get the best from his players? A better man manager would have us a lot closer to arsenal, even with our present players.

i agree. he's not a good motivater thats the problem. he's made a habit of turning good players into average ones during his reign and let some of our best players leave. if i was the chairman i wouldn't trust houllier to make the best of the money i provided him with.

Okocha is a very good player but he's no spring chicken and you often find that where a big name flash player excels at a smaller club and then moves on to a bigger one, things don't always work out.

I could think of Juninho moving from Boro to Athletico Madrid as an example....

Rightly so
A better manager would bring out the best of his players and then get better results.
Liv can actually win the title with the current squad if better managed

I'm a big fan of Okocha but i don't think he is a Houllier type of player. Okocha is unpredictable and incredibly skillfull + qualities that would be strangled from him playing in one of GHs rigid, defensive minded teams. I think if GH signed Okocha for us we would expect too much and get too little. He will go to a better footballing side i expect.

Okocha isn't a good player, he played at Paris but he was too fickle, if you take him, you'll be disappointed.
