This is less of a rumour and more of a word from the horses mouth so to speak.

bbc

1526: Jose Manuel Reina, Villarreal goalkeeper
Despite his Champions League heroics, Jerzy Dudek's position as first-choice keeper at the club is under threat.
It has still not yet been finalised but I cannot deny that I am very close to joining Liverpool. There's still not an agreement between the clubs but it's very likely it will be made shortly. If the deal is closed then I can walk away happy because I hope people understand my position in that I'm signing for the champions of Europe and that Liverpool is not just any team.

Interesting, we've had this one all season and now it seems quite certain.

Benitez chases £18 million Spanish star

Rafa Benitez is trying to bring Seville defender Sergio Ramos into his Champions League winning squad.

Benitez and his No2, Paco Herrera, are convinced Ramos can be a star in the Premiership, just as he has been in the Primera Liga this term.

Seville insist they won't consider any bid less than Ramos' £18 million buyout clause, which could price out the Reds.

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso recently revealed: "Gerrard and Carragher like to know things about Spanish football. We've spoken of Madrid, Betis, Seville.

"The other day I was asked about both Sergio Ramos and Jesus Navas. And I said: 'They are great young players'."

Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka admits he would love to return to Liverpool one day.

The Frenchman watched on as Rafa Benitez's side enjoyed UEFA Champions League glory in Istanbul, knowing he could have been part of the squad that was celebrating an historic win.

The Merseysiders targeted Anelka, who had a loan spell with the club in 2001/2002 when he scored four Premiership goals, in January but ended up snaring Real Madrid's Fernando Morientes, who was cup-tied in Europe.

Anelka left Manchester City for Fenerbahce instead but has regrets that the initial loan deal was not made into a permanent move and also that a transfer could not be brokered this year.

"When I was there, I wanted to stay," said the 26-year-old. "But it could not be settled.

"Last winter, when I was at Manchester City, there was contact with Liverpool.

"If I could have gone, I would have not said 'no'.

"But I have to accept it.

"I am not taking the decision for reinforcements there.

"The Liverpool fans would like me to come back.

"It is a club I really loved.

"I would like to go back one day."

What kind of question is that? Of course he can but it's not his ability it's his poor attitude. He only plays for himself.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has attracted Liverpool's attention but a fee of at least £12 million for the Manchester City winger is thought to have put them off. Instead, they are reported to be interested in Luciano Galletti from Real Zaragoza for a quarter of that price, which reflects Benítez's trust in players from La Liga but also a need to find value for money.

Let Kewell go..... man. He is useless.

I know I ve said that Hammann should go as well. But looking at the changes and the way he performs now, I think we must keep him for some time.

But Kewell is in the well. He does not seem to come up.

SHAUN OF THE REDS
Rafa ready for £15M Wright-Phillips bid to spark battle with Chelsea & Arsenal
EUROPEAN champions Liverpool are ready to make a £15million bid for Shaun Wright-Phillips, sparking a major transfer scramble with Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Manchester City star is the prime target for Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, who is preparing a massive overhaul of his Anfield squad. Chelsea are confident they can tempt the England winger south but Liverpool's status as European champions could swing it for them.

Benitez, who will be given serious funds to spend this summer on the back of Wednesday's Champions League triumph, has around half a dozen players on his hit-list, topped by Wright-Phillips.

Liverpool could have nabbed Wright-Phillips for around £8million a year ago, but City will be looking for almost double that now he is an established international.

That gives Benitez a problem. There is money to spend, but the Spanish coach wants to bring in several new faces and they all come at a price.

He has already agreed a £6m deal to sign Villarreal keeper Jose Reina, and is close to another for Real Zaragoza's £6m defender Gabriel Milito.

On top of that, he is pursuing Zaragoza midfielder Luciano Galletti, an Argentina international who played originally for Estudiantes. The 26-year-old cost Zaragoza £3.3m and the Spanish club will at least want their money back even though Galletti has only a year left on his contract.

Benitez has put names such as Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuiyt and England defender Matthew Upson on his list, along with Owen Hargreaves of Bayern Munich, and Valencia trio Vicente, Pablo Aimar and Roberto Ayala.

If the Spaniard gets the five or six players he wants, then he will not be able to go to £15m for Wright-Phillips.

And that will leave Chelsea and Arsenal free to battle it out for the services of one of the most dangerous players in the Premiership.

If Chelsea really want Wright-Phillips, they will get him because they can top any offer. But the City star has a strong Arsenal connection through Ian Wright, his adoptive father

According to Dutch newspaper 'de Telegraaf' Liverpool are interested in signing Boudewijn Zenden, better known as Bolo.

He is out of contract at Middlesbrough and yet to agree a new deal and if the reports are true, Liverpool already have had contact with the player.

Negotiations will continue next week, when the player returns from holiday. Zenden neither wished to confirm or deny the rumours.

The same newspaper also claims Feyenoord are trying to sign Vignal from the Reds

Signing Zenden would be the biggest mistake that Liverpool ever made.  He was rejected by Chelsea and is not even an established international.  Such a proposal is in line with the Quashie/Nolan rumours...utterly ridiculous.
