Liverpool Football club are one game from greatness as they enter their 6th European cup Final tomorrow evening in Istanbul in what promises to be a balmy evening in the capital of Turkey. But, as the premiership table suggests, it will be a strange kind of greatness but I don't make the rules and if you believed the stuff you have been hearing from UEFA and The FA in recent weeks neither do they !!
The fact remains that the last British team to win the Champions League did so after failing to finish as Champions of their league the previous season (1999 -Man U) so despite Wenger's protests and the "Special One's" tantrums LFC will have to beat the current Champions of Italy having already overcome England's Premiership Champions, last years beaten finalists (Monaco), last season's semi finalists(Deportivo) and Italy's soon to be crowned top team (Juventus) to be crowned Champions of Europe..........
What LFC Fans will bring to the final tomorrow evening will be a festival of noise, colour , tradition and history and humour and whatever the result we will do our great club proud and demonstrate to the watching world what it means to follow this great club. As Mourinho was honest enough to say after the Semi -final: "The power of Anfield Road, I felt it." I'm sure many will experience a repeat in Istanbul tomorrow whatever the result because it's more than a match , its more than a result , this is LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB and greatness is not measured over one game but over many years ........
