FOOTBALL: KOP IN £5M CROUCH SWOOP
Exclusive By Alan Nixon
LIVERPOOL are bidding to sign Southampton's England new boy Peter Crouch.

Rafa Benitez has already begun his move for Crouch (left) - just days after Saints were relegated - and wants to tie up a £5million deal for the 6ft 7in target man. Benitez admits he needs more physical presence in his front line.

Crouch, just called up by Sven Goran Eriksson, will leap at the chance to swap the Championship for Liverpool despite Saints chief Harry Redknapp's wish to hang on to him.

I saw that in the Mirror this morning, i cant believe it, he is NOT the player we need to take us in the right direction. What do you think the other players will think when we bring the beanpole in?!
I think that rumour will be rejected by Liverpool today, or at least i hope it will!!!!

oh and latest rumour  from Oz Football site

Socceroos star Harry Kewell is reportedly set to miss the Confederations Cup in order to recover from a groin operation.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Kewell will have the operation after next Wednesday's Champions League final against AC Milan.

"It's not 100 per cent certain at this stage, I'm still waiting to speak to Harry myself," Socceroos coach Frank Farina told the newspaper. "But I got a message that's he going in for the operation, so it doesn't look good."

"After the season he's had, I can understand why he's doing it. I would have loved him to come to Germany but, as I've always said, it's what happens at the end of the year [World Cup play-offs] which counts

Well if he wants to save his career he will have to have the op, how old is he now? 26-27 probably 5 years left of top flight football, i think rafa knows his ability and was a big fan so he will want to see the old harry, wouldnt we all though?
I say keep him till christmas and if he hasnt improved after the op then he can be put in the transfer window then, but hopefully that wont be neccasary and he will be like a new player for us next season. :buttrock

The Lynds "oracle" strikes again. I tell you lads, stick on this forum and you here it first from CIGGY. She predicted this one about two weeks ago when there wasn't a sniff of it in the press. Top girl.
Not so sure about Crouch however. He is a much much better player than most on here will give him credit for though. If he played for Sparta Prague or Locomotiv Liepzig they'd be dancing in the Newkit aisles. He's obviously good in the air and has a surprisingly good touch for a big lad.
One last thing, if the story is indeed true does it mean we will be saying a premature adios to Morientes as Crouch would seem to me to perform a similar role? PLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT SAYING HE IS AS GOOD AS MORIENTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crouch is a player that could be very good for us, it gives us options, and with the wingers that rafa is after then it suggests that a big man to get on the end of them is ideal, his touch is very good too. I think we'd get him for less than 5m though

:;):  you remembered Mick :D , Fat Sam wants Crouch for 2 million, but knowing our board muggins would probably pay 5 million, for him.
mellor is not going to cut it once hes fit, he will leave or go on loan, le Tallec will probably leave in the transfer window, and baros well its 99% sure hes off, so Crouch would be a handy striker to have as back up or against pysical sides.
Morientes will stay and probably partner Cisse, and we do need a 25 goals a season striker but who?

Not sure about the 25 goals a season thing. Modern day football isn't really like that. Teams who have that sort of player, Arsenal with Henri or Manure with horsefeatures tend to get found out when their star man doesn't play. The over-reliance on one bloke to stick the thing in the onion bag can become a burden and make you easier to defend against.
After much slagging by me earlier in the season and having seen him 'live' a few times I'm beginning to think Andy Johnson might not be a bad shout as "one of four" striker option. His movement is good, he's aggresive and has an eye for goal. Now Palace are down and once the dust has settled, I think you may be able to get him for about 5 million. I'm not saying he's exactly Michael Owen but we could do a lot worse.
If it is to be next season that Morienbtes and Cisse are our preferred combo (assuming probably incorrectly that Rafa will play two up top) then a first change pairing of Crouch and Johnson wouldn't leave me dreading an away match at Wigan straight after a Champions League game. They'd just about do for me to be honest.

Dirk Kuijt from Feyenoord has scored 27 goals this season, we are currently looking at him but his 10 million price tags a bit much but if jerzey goes back there we could arrange some deal, hes a cracker player, i would love him to come to Liverpool

Lynds mate, I must be honest I've absolutely never heard of the fella. God only knows how you pronounce his surname but if you're saying it then the internet researchers and Champ man' players on here had better start doing some homework real fast.
Only thing is, I told all the lads in the pub about Peter Crouch two weeks ago so now I'm gonna look like the all knowing sage of Wimbledon. I wanna tell 'em about this fecker aswell but I can't say his name.  :;):
