Ancelotti praises reds

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti today hailed Rafa Benitez for guiding Liverpool into the Champions League final in his first season on Merseyside.
Ancelotti will go head to head with Benitez in Istanbul next week as Milan take on Liverpool for the right to be crowned European Champions and, although the Italians will start the game as favourites, the experienced Ancelotti knows the Reds will provide tough opposition.

"Benitez has done a very good job with Liverpool," he said. "In his first year with the club he has taken them to the Champions League final.

"He has won the tactical battle against Chelsea and Juventus so I have a lot of respect for him. Liverpool is a team I like. They are organised and they have ideas.

"I think the game against Liverpool will be more or less in the same line as that against Juve (in the final two years ago)," admitted Ancelotti.

"It wouldn't surprise me if we had to go to the penalty shoot-out. And for this there is little you can do in terms of preparation even though we do practise penalties during training.

"But in a game, and especially in a final, it all has to be down to psychology and the conditions you face, so it's by no means easy."

I prefered when the manager of the opposition wrote us off which then spured us on.

"It wouldn't surprise me if it went to penalty shoot outs " says Ancellotti .  !

Hope we are as well prepared . AC have shown their ability to play with patience ,getting vital goals in injury time . I think with their mentality they would be quite happy to see it go to penalties . If they can't dominate a game they're quite happy to soak it up and wait for the opportunity to nick one .
Word is they are practising penalties in training  ! Are they scared or just planning ahead ?

It makes sense to practice  penaltys Ihope we are doing the same.Although if it comes down to it on the night,it will come down to who can take the pressure rather than who can kick a ball the best.

I watched Tranmere last night in the play off semi final. It went to sudden death. The Tranmere centre half took a terrible penalty,Hartlepool scored ,Tranmere out.If this lad took another 10 penaltys he wouldnt hit one as bad as that. The pressure got to him. What Iam trying to say is no matter how much they practice,on the night its all down to how they handle the pressure.
