Cheers for the update Juventino - While i hope your boys win the scudetto this season i wish you would leave till the last day of the season. We won't those Milan players to be tired and depressed when they get Istanbul  :D

Milan yesterday has lost with Lecce not for poor form but because the players think already at the final. Serie A is now lost and so friday evening Milan will play with reserves against Palermo.I think only two players of milan are in poor form: Pirlo and Seedorf but i think they will arrive at 25th may in a good form. A final is strange, Milan is favourite but in only 90 minutes can happen everything. Ambosini is out for the final, he is iron.

barnesrush wrote:i think we should drop traore as he is better for games where we are using more defensive formations. hopefully we will use tactics similar to the home game against juve with two up in le tallec and baros, but obviously with cisse replacing le tallec. also i feel keeping cafu back can be key to stopping one of milans outlets so if kewell looked sharp today i would play this:

              dudek
finnan carra hyppia risse
garcia gerrard alonso kewell
            baros cisse

i think this would surprise milan as they see us as a defensive side but if we hit them early we can always bring on didi or igor to sure things up. they are both professionals and although being dissapointed to not start will understand the tactics. baros will leave if he doesnt start which isnt neccesarily a bad thing if moro and djibril (2 goals today!) start playing

Firstly i think that we will see the 4-5-1 formation that has worked well in the CL this season in the final, with the POSSIBLITY(as Rafa would say :bowdown ) of starting Cisse, which i personally like the idea of. But with my tactical mind on i think it better to start with Baros. I say this because he does so much hard work in being the first line of defence for the team, but also the amount of runs that he makes down the channels. Also, think about it like this, if we were losing or drawing and deciding to go for the win, who would you rather see come off the bench to join the game...BAROS or CISSE...i think Cisse is the better option from the bench because of his pace especially towards the end of the game. as the opposition tires, he will have plenty of life in him. However if baros was to come off the bench, then he would already be p*ssed that he didnt start and will either have an attitude problem or just be so greedy so that he can prove the manager wrong in his team selection As i said at the start though i would love cisse to start and do the full 90mins even if baros is brought on, but this could lead to him suffering(due to lack of games) from being tired if it ws to go into extra time.

In response to the above qoute, i would argue that it better to leave Traore at LB and keep Riise on the left of midfield. To say that Kewell will back up Cafu is for me comical, i mean he doesnt have the strength needed to battle Cafu (who is extremely physical!) and he cant tackle to save his life and will give away too many free kicks that could potentially put the team in dangerous situations in regard to set peices.
I think that Riise can give us more both as an attacking force and a defensive rock. There is absolutely NO WAY that harry kewell could do a better than riise against cafu !!!!!!

how about Alonso?  ???

as much as i love riise hes not as naturally gifted attack wise as kewell is, which is why i would consider using this option as kewell can perhaps take better advantage of the space cafu is likely to leave behind him. as i say risse would probly do a good job too but im just lookin at how we can attack milan as best we can

I see where you are coming from in respect to Kewell exploiting the space Cafu may leave, but if cafu has gone up and left a space this must mean that he is attacking US and maybe backing up the left mid(mormally seedorf i think) thus we would have a 2 v 1 in our LB area, ok there is space to exploit, but there (for me) is also a more important fact of stopping their attack first before thinking about exploiting the space left in behind. And This is where riise wil be more useful, we cannot afford any one player to drop concentration a la PSV(something likely of kewell at the moment!), as WE WILL BE PUNISHED, make no mistake about it.

To be honest i am beginning to get a bit worried with some peoples views, that we are almost gonna walk this game, although they are not in a rich vein of form, they can still get a goal, then do to us, as we did to Chelsea, and i can already hear some of the fans, screaming 'ah well they nicked one and then they just sat back'.......Please beleive this is a very likely scenario, and we wont be able to complain, as we have used Italian type tactics, from the second leg of the first knockout round of the CL league (what is it?? second round?? sorry!!!)  But Riise gives many more ositives than negatives than kewell would IMHO!!!!!!

yeah cool mate were gonna have to differ on this one. lookin at it from the milan perspective theyd much rather see traore and riise than riise and kewell im sure and cafu doesnt get a huge amount of help down the right as he is such a great athlete he does nearly the job of two men, so perhaps our left back being overrun is less of a problem

-Traore has performed well as LB for the most part in the CL, so keep him where he is.
-Kewell doesn't deserve to start against Milan
-Riise hasn't scored in a while but I would still leave him as left winger for the final
-keep the 4-5-1 formation with Baros up front, bring on Cisse in the second half.

Cisse is great because of his pace and Baros because of his runs it may be a great duet :D

hmmm Risse should play on the left wing and You`re right that Kewell doesn't deserve to start against Milan But mabye think about 4-4-2 with Baros and Cisse :P It could works and everybody thinks that Liv will start in 4-5-1
Nevermind about news from Italy. Liverpool need to play on high level with great defence.
Main roules :
1. Lookout for Shevhenko`s head :D
2. Kaka`s passes
3. Cafu`s runs

I expect the 4-5-1 formation and think we will start with Riise.  Good news is we have options on the Bench....so if it's 0-0 with 30 mins to go, we can bring on Kewell, Baros/Cisse and change the game.

With the 5 man midfield, we should be able to shut down Milan's route to their strikers.

I'd play the midfield of

Garica   Gerrard  Alonso  Hamman Riise (or may, just maybe Kewell)

My most favourable formation (though i doubt Rafa would choose this):
                Dudek

Finnan  Hyypia  Carragher  Riise

Garcia  Gerrard  Alonso  Kewell

          Baros  Cisse

Firstly, this provides us with much more attacking flair then we showed in many of the games where we fielded a 451 formation. As some might suggest, Baros and Cisse whom are both speedy and quick strikers could run the Milan defense ragged for most of the game. Antelotchi (cant spell Milan's coach's name) and his lads would most probably expect us to field a rather defensive formation so to counter that, we should be able to blitz them like how we did against Juventus at Anfield for the first 20 minutes (though I think it's better to maintain it for more than that). If we look comfortable at the break, we could consider bringing off Baros/Cisse for a defensive player, Hamann, Biscan, or even Nunez/Smicer, so that we could hold the ball up a bit more confidently. If we do not look comfortable, leave the formation as it is or even push Riise and Finnan further up the field.

Some might be concerned with our defensive capabilities in such a lineup. But as one said, the best form of defense is to attack. Nevertheless, we would still have Alonso digging deep into the midfield and dictating the play and should make the back 4 more comfortable. Even Riise's and Finnan's defensive aspect has improved heaps so we should not worry. Gerrard would also be able to play in his most suitable and effective position which is right at midfield and not an attacking midfielder. This would allow him to make his usual share of contribution. But the one thing I might worry is the clash of Alonso's and Gerrard's roles. This might mess up our midfield and as a result, Milan would be controlling the match.
