Decision was the correct one, insists Slovakian official

The linesman who awarded the controversial goal that knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League today insisted he was "100% convinced" he made the right decision.
Roman Slysko, a Slovakian who is a doctor by profession, decided Liverpool forward Luis Garcia's shot had crossed the line despite William Gallas's attempts to clear the ball.

Slysko said: "I believe that my decision was correct. My first feeling and which I remain convinced of is that it was a goal. I am 100% convinced that it was a goal.

"It was a very hard situation and in that kind of a situation a person only has a few hundredths of a second to react. From my information as well I understand that TV replays have also not been able to prove it was not a goal.
"I saw it clearly. In my view I was adequately positioned for that situation. There will always be these kind of situations in football matches everywhere".

Liverpool won the semi-final 1-0 and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed Slysko had been intimidated into awarding the goal by the vociferous Anfield crowd.

Chelsea captain John Terry added: "The lads said the ball didn't go over the line. William Gallas was in the way of the ball from where the linesman was but he gave it - which was a bad decision. If you're not sure, then don't give a goal."

If the lads said the ball didn't go over the line, why didn't they complain?
Maybe in their arrogance, they thought that with a further 86 mins to go, they definitely would win.
The way I see it, it is sour grapes.
I have no sympathy for Eidur Gudjonsen(sp?). He cheated, got Alonso booked and then laughed in his face; what goes around comes around. He will rue the day, for a long to come (hopefully), that he missed the chance to put his team into the final.

As I am a conspiracy theory/cynical git sort of person, here is my take on the Alonso incident.
They feared Alonso's skill, so  his ankle was broken by Lampard and when he was back and playing in the first leg he was booked so he wouldn't play in the second leg. He and Gerard make a great pairing in midfield, they didn't target Gerard because they want to buy him and don't want a 'crock' also, correct me if I am wrong: didn't Alonso turn down Chelsea cos he wanted to be with Rafa? Or am I making that up??

Anyway, real justice was done, cos their pride is hurt and it hurts them that they are not in the Final.

I've read every newspaper today and seen countless reruns of the game;I've even listened to radio commentary repeats and they all confirm we won 1-0.This can only prove conclusively that it was a goal because at no other time during the 96 minutes of play did the ball go anywhere near the goal-line ,let alone cross it.

Sky Sports showed computerized replays of the goal from a camera thats is looking down the crossbar of the goal, showing that the ball never crossed the line however Gallas' foot wasn't positioned the same way it was in the actual game.

Of course Andy Gray said that Baros should had been sent off for raising his boot so high, sad sad w@nker.

It's payback. Chelsea have robbed us before. At Anfield two penalties weren't given and they knew they were lucky that day. Even at Cardiff they had their share of luck, the ref was on their side for the most part.
