Who is are best striker?

Fernando, Djibril, Milan, Florent, or Neil, who is the best?

Fernando Morientes - Shown his class at Monaco last season and Real Madrid most of his career. Has shown glimpses since joining the 'pool. I'm not sure he has the pace or can cope with the physical side of the Premiership though, but I will give him time.

Djibril Cisse - Hasn't yet lived up to his £14million price tag but have seen glimpses. I feel since recovering from his injury he has looked better, and looks more willing in closing down defenders. His pace is there for sure and he knows where the goal is, he plays with confidence at the moment which is very good for a player who has had such a horrific injury.

Milan Baros - Isn't what Liverpool FC are looking for. Runs his heart out for the cause but hasn't got the finishing touch, he started well and seemed on a high after his Euro 2004 performance, that has slowly dropped. He now has forgot how to find the back of the net, and his work rate has dropped. He wasn't playing against Chelsea was he?, other than the header.

Florent Sinama Pongolle - Young and pacey. I don't think he is the finished article because he doesn't find the net on a regular basis, a good sub player, but no-more, he can come on and change gaes ie. Olimpiakos.

Neil Mellor - Shown glimpses and looks like a talent, but maybe not good enough for the famous red shirt. Scored a few when he came into the squad due to injuries, has strength and can finish well, but I don't think he will terrorise defenders.

What do you think, who is are best striker?

Baros I suppose, he's got the goals anyway (but not that many).
If Garcia counts I'd be tempted to see him.
Hard to call, but so far nothing impressive has come out of any of them.

i would say Garcia but he tends to give the ball too easily to the opposition.

dude...

why your thread all have "is are"........?

Anyway to answer your question.... i don't really rate the strikers we have. I identified a lot with owen, fowler (in his prime) & rush (the strikers i idolized during my time as LFC supporter). The strikers we have now are nowhere near the about mentioned ones....... But that does not mean they are not good enuff for LFC.

Here's my take.

1)Morientas - I like him. But i don't think he is world class. Even when he was with 1st choice at real madrid, He was pretty ordinary for me.   He is a good striker and that's it. He is the best header of the ball amont the striker we have. Seems like lacking pace.

2)Cisse - A lot of pace. But that's it (for me at least). I have not seen enuff of him to judge him. He scored a lot of goals in the french league...great. Kezman scored a lot of goals in holland (even more than RVN), but look at him here. Once upon a time, tony cascarino was the top scorer in the french league too. I am not dissing Cisse, but i have not seen enuff from him to think that he will be able to somewhat replace the space left behind by owen.

3)Baros - Looks like some fans cannot wait to get rid of baros. Yeah he runs like a headless chicken...yeah he always has his head down (becos he dribbles a lot). But this is the only striker we have who can take on opposition defenders. He can create his own chances.... He works very hard to close down defenders. But he misses a lot of 1-1's. His team-mates awareness is bad. He tends to be selfish.

4)Mellor - Would have better if he had been introduced to 1st team earlier... Now i think it is too late for him to be a 1st team regular. He can score a lot of goals if given the chance.  He also works hard for the team. But thats it. He is slow. He can't dribble..etc. He is somewhat a poor man's morientas.

5)Pongolle - A very raw talent. Very pacy. Hope rafa can make him a top striker...He has the ability to become the next anelka.

This is just my view......... We don't have fantastic strikers. But they can do their job. Thats why i would not sell morientas, baros or cisse as each of them brings something different to the table. But if baros is sold, then imagine how much money we would have to spend to bring in someone of the quality of baros (and yes...BAROS IS MUCH BETTER THAN ANDY JOHNSON, MUCH BETTTER THAN ROBBIE KEANE, MUCH BETTER THAN DAFOE).

and to answer your question, baros is the best for me (he scored the most number of goals). He also performed superbly in the 1st half of the season. He hasn't been the same after returning from injury.

Baros. Hands down  :bowdown .

Morientes- Has'nt done much so far. He'll either stay because of Rafa or else he'll go to Lyon. He is an intelligent footballer  but he lacks pace. He will hopefully improve next season.

Cisse- Good finisher. He prefers power over placement and he will probably be a success next season but i'm unsure.  :eyebrow

Baros- Bags of energy. Scored 11 goals in the first part of the season. His injury against Macedonia did startle him. When he breaks his 'duck' he'll probably get some form.   :buttrock

Mellor- The Rock already said it. He missed his chance. He'll pobably go to Southampton next season or something. Reserve material  :sniffle

Sinama- One for the future  :;):

Go flush your head down the toilet.

Morientes is not world class? Idiot.

Baros. Hands down

13 goals in how many games? Pathetic for a striker. Soon our midfielders will score more. FFS Frank Lampard has scored 17 goals and he's a midfielder.

Pathetic!

Baros is pathetic, agreed, one on one with the keeper, should be putting those in every time, esp in important games.

I'd have Fowler back in place of him, did anyone see the beautiful pass he made against us, set the striker passed our defence.

Morientes, give it some time,

Cisse, likewise, like him paired with Owen ( hope he comes back ) if he does those two will be the top scorers in the league next year.

Le Tallec, like him alot, he'll do well, he has a cool head,

Pognilly, not impressed,

Mellor, like him, scored some very important goals for us this year.

Garcia, I'll take him over Baros any day,,,,,,,,,:)

I really hope Cisse would do well but to me although he has been injured and had not played many games but those games can still tell you something about him. He is very quick but only in a straight line kind of way. He just doesn't have the touch or control that could make him a good striker here.

As for Pongolle, he is impressive. He got great skill and speed (lightning quick and very agile). His passing is also very good compare to the other strikers we have. I think if Rafa is gonna get another top striker next year, I propose Pongolle should be given some chances at the right midfield position. He can be another SWP. We should definitely hold on to him.

I reckon Cisse is liverpools best striker. He hasn't got to his 14mil pricetag because he's been injured. When he's fully fit he won't be scared to play because right he's scared incase he breaks his leg again, and that would be his career over which means a waste of 14mil.I hope him and owen are up there next year with the top strikers.Thier pace will frighten defenders.Look at henry his pace burnt liverpools defenc last year or the year before, bcos of his pace

Hahaha.. your grammar need some work. No offense.

Based on what you provide I would go for Baros. Not because he is the best in Premiere League or in Europe. Because he is the best bet currently in Liverpool squad.

Some people purposely start off thread to slagg Baros and to justify their claims possibily having the need to vindicate themselves. But they don't understand Baros is currently our best bet. That is until Morientes and Cisse start to perform. Currently both cannot match the value of contribution from Baros yet. We need to separate idealism from reality. Ideally we can buy any strikers at any time to replace Baros, reality is our best bet is Baros and we can't change that.. until the end of this season. So slagging at him bring no purpose except for selffish reasons.

I like Cisse but I don't think he will be a great signing for us. I am not sure why but I really can't see the "star" in him.. yet.
A bit on the lazy side, but with enough guidance he could be a great asset... but I am not holding my breath.

Morientes has great reputation before joining Liverpool. Not too sure why he has not contributed effectively as much as we want. Disappearing act are far to frequent. Something must be wrong... maybe he is homesick.

I am like a freelance scout... Much for personal reason.
Last season I recommended Saha early in the season (after watching his performance) my local friends laughed their pants off. But they stopped laughing when he started to perform and bought by ManU.

This season I recommended Andy Johnsson, again they laughed. I posted here this time and I think people here ignored me.. haha. Now my friends all stoped laughing and you know why...

Oh dear.. I got many grammar mistake too... hahahaha

I dont think Mellor will be traded away, as with the new Uefa rules sayign we need 4 ho mesgrown players and whatnot, and Mellor is one of these.  would be much more expensive to replace, than to sell for no gain.  I like Cisse, though this season baros wins hands down as everyone else has been dl.

Can't see Owen coming back at all.  As for Cisse being our best striker, it's open to debate.  He's certainly got all the attributes and i dont think his first touch is as bad as some people make out (I personally thought Owen's was worse).  This season, there's no doubt that Baros has been No1 (even though he has also been poor).  Hopefully, next season, with some experience in the Prem, Cisse and Nando will really show what they are made of
