Be honest - How long have you rated carragher

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JC_81 » Thu Apr 28, 2005 2:18 pm

Always thought he was a solid player, but the first time i remember him playing at centre back he was excellent.  It was a champions league group game in the Houllier era (2001/02) i think and carra started at CB in place of Henchoz who was injured.  Could never understand why Houllier avoided playing him there after that, preferring traore or biscan if Henchoz/Hyypia were out.

I have to admit I never rated him as a full-back, never had the ability to be effective coming forward.  CB is by far his best position and its absolutely criminal that he wasn't up for player of the year.

amazing to think that he started out as a midfield player. i also never rated him as a fullback because he didn't have the necessary skills going forward.

Believe it or not st mick he actually started off up front for the junior side, before dropping back to midfield. I think under rafa he has looked so much more comfortable with the ball at his feet. He's my prefered option to sammy when looking for a rangey pass from defence now, and it's also no longer a suprise to see him bring the ball out of defence and help drive the midfield on. A couple of years ago I believed, for the team to advance carra may have to be sacraficed, now he'd be the first name on my teamsheet.

Carra is the best centreback in england for me (i might be a little bias but...i don't give a damn).

I though he was just an average squad member until rafa played as a centreback....and the rest is history.

i thought after a promising start in midfield he went backwards. at one point i thought he was the worst `footballer` in the league when he played left back, he could not keep the ball in play no matter how hard he tried.his passes up the line that ended up in the kemlyn or main stands were becoming a running joke with fans around me, we admired his heart but just didnt think he had the basic skills as when someone passed it to him it took him five touches to get it under control and even then he just booted it into the stands. being fair to the fans that never doubted him i admire your eye for a player coz to me he just didnt have it at that time.
but being fair to the lad he knuckled down and he`s looked immense at centre half and i think he`s probably the best centre half in the league now, others are flashier but carragher gets the job done.
he`s also matured into leader and a iconic figurehead that represents everything good that this club is about. he speaks with a passion about liverpool fc and his interviews are like listening to a scouse winston churchill, his rally to the flag speeches are inspiring even to a fully paid up member of the old cynics club like me.
he`s a credit to his city, his club and himself.
i was wrong about him and i`m made up that i was.
well done jamie, just because someone else has got a piece of elastic around their arm doesn`t mean your not our captain.

I didnt rate him very much at all prior to this season i thort he was ok and could make a squad player but i advocated him being sold before the season started.  Well lets suffice to say that I dont think that anymore :p

oooooh.. show off.. :D

Carra has been absolutely awesome.. is leading the first ever teletext vote.. the viewers/ooters vote  :D  and deservedly..

..both he and sami were awesome the other night.. I for one never really had an opinion of him.. like another Stevie Nichol... quitely getting on with it .. without the bright lights and tabloid attention... but boy has he shone under Benitez..  :)

for me it speaks volumes that although i'm vexed that xabi will miss the second leg, i'm massively more concerned that JC may get a booking and miss the final. he's irreplaceable at the back.

Carra is the same player as last season and the year before but now he has found the position tha suits him best and he has been given a long run in the team playing there.  He is also alot more focused.  His concentration on the game is intense for the 90 minutes.  The more I see of him playing now the more he reminds me of Emlyn Hughes and Tommy Smith.....nothing too fancy but solid as a rock.

i never really rated him at all until this season that is, and the reason for that is, benitez is playing him at his natural position where hes more comfortable, right back and left back forget about them for carragher, centre half is his correct position and i think hes been our player of the season

the more i think about it, the more i think houllier destroyed this club with ****** signings, and he let patrick berger go, what a cowboy
