I'm much more worried about Cisse coming good for us than Morientes.

Morientes proved he can play outside of Spain and he's already an accomplished international.

Cisse scored a lot of goals in the French league, but has yet to prove himself outside of it.

And I'm worried he wont be the same player after that kind of an injury

Nobody can judge Morientes at this early stage of his Liverpool career and same goes with Cisse .

I think they will both come good and if not remind me at the end of next season.

He'll take his chances and bring other great players into play. I'm sure he'll be a success next season.

He scored 10 Champions League goals last season Stu, so how can you put his tally down to 15 in total is proof of your knowledge of football.

Just had a thought, what would have happened if Moro had been eligible for our CL games and taken part in some of our fantastic performances? Surely that would've done 2 things:

1) Raised his confidence sky-high

2) Given him more games to adjust to playing with a new bunch of team-mates

John we can take it from this that you are fairly sure as you can be that Morientes will come good. You're not on your own as you can see from the other posts. This is your opinion and you are fully entitled to it.
This being a forum however, when somebady starts a thread it is normal in that topic opener to either ask a question or give an opinion. Then people such as your good self either agree, disagree or abstain. That's sort of the whole point really. It's not being "fecking impatient" to point out that Morientes has had little impact in a number of games, it is merely stating the obvious. Just like it is stating the obvious to talk about his class and pedigree, anybody who knows football can see within a couple of minutes that he has both in abundance.
Somebody else asked the question if those who were criticising Morientes now would be saying that they always knew he would score goals when he gets 20 next season. I don't think he will score 20 goals for us next season. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and believe me, I'll be the first to say I've got it wrong if he does the business. My prediction if he stays, 9 Premiership goals.

Mick that wasn't aimed at you specifically or anyone else on here particularly, but there have been a lot of grumbles that morientes hasn't been doing the business, which IMO is harsh.

Yeah you are right and everyone is entitled to their opinion, where would be the fun in coming on here if there weren't a few disagreements?!

9 goals for morientes next season? Seems a bit low. I agree he's not gonna score 20 in the prem next year, but he scored 9 in the champ lge last year and whether we are in that competition or in the uefa nxt year, I can see him scoring a few in europe. 20 goals in all competitions for morientes nxt yr is realistic i think, plus a fair few assists

Reading the various posts I think giving him a break is exactly what people in this thread are doing . Or did I miss something ?

Go read all of the posts next time mate, I'd hate for you to miss something again

I've read them all again ,and far from being impatient with Morientes virtually every post (at the time I made mine) were expressing confidence in his albility and suggesting he be given time . So thanks for the tip ,but no ,I didn't miss anything ,however maybe you did

Leon: Google Morientes and Monaco and you'll see that Stu isn't a million miles off the mark. Morientes didn't bring the house down scoring wise in French domestic football last season (I think, if memory serves correct, that he got 9 goals) but his Champions League exploits were exceptional.

His international strike rate is very good, but as far as I can recollect, I don't think he's regularly got 25 goals a season in the past, which is what I think Stu is driving at.

Morientes is a similar player to Chris Sutton and Teddy Sheringham in that he won't burn anyone with pace but his game is based more on aerial power and moreover, his ability to pick a pass and direct play from 25 yards out. He's a far better player than Sutton and does everything that Sutton does far better, but love him or loathe him, Teddy Sheringham has a similar style to Morientes (or used to).

Yeah most posts may have been saying to give him time, therefore my comments were directed at the ones that were being critical of him. That would be obvious to most people mate!!

Well his track record certainly proves he is a great player. But so far he hasn't really adjusted to english football but give him time and im sure he will do the buisness next season. We have also been disrupted by alot of injuries and he hasn't really had time to gel with a strike partner. He also before he came to liverpool hadn't played for months so you never know he still might not be 100% fit and also you don't know what's going on behind the scenes possibly he could be a little homesick. You just don't no. Give him Time.

I have said this earlier in one of the threads that Morrientes will not be the main prolific striker that most of the members here had been hoping for. He is more of a forward player who brings his fellow strikers into play and gets in with assists, who can also score. He scored 20 odd goals for Madrid in only 1 season but his contributions were the main reason Raul used to score a lot of goals years ago.

Morrientes needs a prolific partner but right now, Liverpool have none who can be a prolific striker consistently. Cisse and Baros are not really suited for the premiership and both lack the predatory instinct like Owen.

Morrientes should come good next season as he is very classy, but to get the best out of his abilities, Liverpool needs a prolific striker or two a.s.a.p.
