Forwards - Where are the goals

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What do you make of our 3 "star" strikers.

I'm usually a Baros supporter but he has been terrible the last few months, I know all players including Van Nistleroy lose form but I get fed up with his diving and pretending his injured and screaming agony faces when there's nothing wrong. I also have doubts about his commitment and whether he is thinking of moving.

Cisse looks like he can't control a ball. He didn't impress me when he started the season. I'll put it down to not being match fit and hopefully he'll show his stuff at the start of next season.

Morientes was a disgrace against palace, did fukk all and gave the ball away when he had it, looked like a lazy fukker to me. AS his reputation is so big I'll put it down to "settling in" problems.

I really hope all 3 start the new season in a blaze of glory but I am worried about each of them.

I've said this before - Baros isn't a striker.  He is athletic, has pace, but he doesn't have that killer strike. We need a striker who, will 9 times out of 10, put the ball in the back of the net, when 1-on-1 with the keeper.  Someone, when the game is tight and chances are thin, will put the ball in the net, when he gets that 1 chance.  We need a Michael Owen at his prime.

i'm not a baros fan and never have been. he's never going to score the number of goals we need on a regular basis. those two guilt edge one on one misses in the derby match summed up why he is that little bit short.

as for cisse, i think he will be dynamite once he gets fit and starts playing regularly. even without the injury there would have been no guarantee that he would have set the world on fire anyway. henry was garbage in his first season and took time to adjust.

as for morientes, he has struggled to settle in but in all fairness the service he has received has been nothing short of garbage the majority of the time. he's also been suffering with niggling injuries.

realistically i can see baros leaving this summer with another striker coming in.

What about the one he missed against Juve.  It's matches like that I'm taking about.  Ones where the chances are very few - and he missed a 1-on-1...... not a killer in my mind

Baros will go in the summer I think and will need a quality replacement, perhaps Defoe, Torres or even Andy Johnson (shoot me down in flames all you wish), who IMO would score plenty of goals here with service from Xabi and Stevie.

He was excllent for Palace agiant us, and he has scored 20 goals this season, admittedly a few have been pens, but he won many of them anyway, plus he is an excellent penalty taker. He is very quick, a good finisher and quite strong for a little fella, if he can score 20 goals in a season for relegation fodder then IMO he can do it for us. Apparently Rafa rates him highly also.

Yeah I agree that baros has been poor recently (although I'm usually a fan of his), Morientes has started slowly and Cisse didn't impress me that much b4 he got injured either.

Think baros is off in the summer so wouldn't worry too much about him (even though i think he is a good player and would keep him).  Think we have to excuse cisse and morientes who are still settling into a new style of football in england.

The main problem as i see it is the supply to the strikers, especially from out wide.  These have to be our priority signings in the summer IMO.  Another quality striker is needed if and when baros goes also

1st of all we should look at the system that rafa plays. In his teams, the strikers usually do not get most of the goals.

secondly, the service to the strikers have been sh1t. Really...if you have traore and La tellac playing right wing, even marco van basten would not be able to score.

3)Enuff with baros ******. He has been the most impressive among the 3 strikers we have and he still gets so much sh1t. His goal per game average with the czech republic is something like a goal every 2 games.  He can't be that bad. As for talk of having AJ instead of Baros......no comments needed. Baros is an international class striker. AJ is just an average premiership striker (just deduct the number of penalities he has scored this season and you can get the goals he scored in open play).

Baros - Decent player, but not of high enough quality to be a first team regular at LFC. He will definitely be sold in the summer.

Cisse - I said at the time that he wasn’t worth paying 14MIL for, because he had failed to make any impact in Europe with Auxerre, and with France on the international scene, he had only proven himself in a poor league. He has raw attributes of strength and pace, but his control and technique are not what you expect from a 14MIL player, also he is dead lazy off the ball, and is really 1 dimensional in his play. I think he will definitely improve, but don't expect him to be a world beater.

Morientes - Everyone knows this guy has quality, his first two goals showed that. But I am not sure he will fully adapt to the Premiership, he doesn’t like the physical nature. Again I think he will improve but by how much is still very much in the balance.

What worries me is that we will most likely go into a season without a proven Premiership goal scorer, for the second season running. If Baros goes I think that we need to by a striker who has proven he can score goals in the Premiership, so that if Cisse and Morientes are seriously off form or get injured we have an able deputy. Personally I think that Yakubu Ayegbini of Portsmouth would be a good signing. He has proven that he can score goals in the Premiership, even at a lesser club like Portsmouth. I think we could get him for around £8MIL. The guy is strong and quick, and more importantly he is aggressive, unlike Cisse and Morientes.

I agree with a lot you are saying but don't really think yakubu would do the business for us.

I do like the idea of bringing in a player who is a proven goalscorer in the premiership.

I wouldn't be confident about buying someone like johnson either as he has only been in the division for 1 season and could be a flash-in-the-pan like marcus stewart for ipswich a few years back

Players who fit the bill in IMO are Robbie Keane, Defoe, Anelka and Forssell.  I think we could get any of these for less than the 8 mil yakubu is being touted for (except defoe - closer to 15).  I'm sure I'll get slated for suggesting these players but fuc.k it thats what i think

We could buy a Johnson or a Yakubu, a proven prem goalscorer playing for relegation battle clubs.
I'd rather have a world class forward who will score over 20 consistenly and help us challenge for the title. Owen is still the man.

forsell, now there`s a player i`d like at anfield.
regarding baros, he`s not having a good time at the moment but he never goes missing and he`s always busy, and him going off at the weekend seems to have been the catalyst for our capitulation.
with not qualifying for the cl i can see a few players who are not having a great time maybe looking to jump ship, so maybe the decisions will be made for rafa.

Anelka is the strop master, Keane is greedy party tricks player, Owen is gone and not coming back. Johnson has scored 10 goals in open play this season, and though he has done well he woulden't be worth the risk at the price that has been suggested.

Defoe is a good player, but would cost us a lot, over 15MIL. Forssell is a very good suggestion, would be fairly cheap, is a real goal scorer, but would he go somewhere where isn't guaranteed first team football?

The reason I suggested Yakubu, is because our attack lacks real aggression, Yakubu is a really powerful guy who likes to put himself about (that would be great weapon, especially on occasions like Saturday) and combined with his pace and his proven goal scoring ability he could be a real good signing.

Keane a greedy party-tricks player?  He has scored the same number of league goals as yakubu this year and also has a superb international scoring record.  He is proven over several years in the prem also (still only 24), yakubu hasn't been around that long.  I agree that yakubu does look dangerous at times but you can hardly call him a player of proven goalscoring ability in the prem.  Keane's workrate is second to none if you actually watch him play.

Yeah anelka is a stroppy b@stard but he is a proven goalscorer in the prem and within our price range.  He would also sign for us at the drop of a hat i reckon even though he has just gone to fenerbace.  He'd be a gamble, but less so than johnson or yakubu in my opinion

If defoe was priced over 15mil i wouldn't bother and doubt anyone else would either.  He is good but not the finished article.  15mil is realistic value-wise but doubt he'd leave spurs yet

Surprised no one on here has mentioned forssell before.  I reckon he'd be up for the move, he has no chance of getting a game at chelsea with their 1-up-front and duff and robben supporting

I think that Baros can score as many goals as Keane, and they both offer a similar threat, poor awareness, dribble a lot, and lose the ball a lot, both players are hard to fit into a TEAM, but if the team is based around them they will be successful. Keane is also on a reported £60,000 a year, I don’t think he will take a decrease and even if he does how much.

Keane, Baros, Pauleta all have excellent international goal scoring records but I wouldn’t want none of them as them as a first teamer for us. The aggression factor is why I have chosen Yakubu.

I do agree with you on Forssell. He is a very good player and a realistic target, but I just think we need a more physical striker (Morinetes is not this).

Yeah Luke, baros and keane are similar but keane does have the aggression you are talking about.  I'd like to see how keane would do with us, but not for 60 grand a week if thats true!!

We'll have to agree to disagree on keane, i think he would be good for us but thats just IMO

I know what you're saying about a more physical striker, but there are few around that have the skills to match
