excellent article, nice to see the media giveing credit where cedit is due.

"Benítez could argue that it has been nigh on impossible to achieve consistency, considering the freak injury list that has been a hindrance all season. It makes a refreshing change, after Houllier's tendency to delve into his big book of excuses, that the Spaniard has not whined about Anfield's overcrowded sickbay. His ability to improvise with makeshift squads has enhanced his reputation for tactical shrewdness in Europe. Having been sketchy in the group phase, Liverpool displayed a potent blend of discipline and determination once the do-or-die matches arrived, whoever the personnel. Auf Wiedersehen Bayer Leverkusen. Arrivederci Juventus. Bye bye Chelsea?"

I'd forgotten about this - when we pipped Newcastle to 4th last season, all the talk was about how it had earned us £10m thanks to CL qualification. Few of us would've thought we'd be in the semi finals 11 months later.

According to this article we will earn around £20m for our good run, which raises 2 questions:

1) Who do we spend the extra money on?

2) If we fail to qualify for next season's CL then we still have £20m, which is what we'd have if we DO qualify again for next season's CL but hadn't done so well in this year's

So what I'm saying is even if we don't get into next season's competition, then we're in the same financial position as the club realistically thought we would have been even on the assumption that we qualify again

Make sense anyone?

Also if Gerrard is sold (don't want him to be, but major possibilty) we will get circa 30 million, plus possible sales of others like Kewell. Diouf, Diao, Baros and etc would probably raise naother 10-15 million.

Not all of this is going to go into transfer activity, and not all money from sale of Gerrard and others is paid to the club, what with agent fees and other such ******.

It should still leave us with around 30-40 million to spend in the summer, which should allow us to buy a quality centre-half, replacement for Gerrard and a winger like Vicente/Joaquin or SWP.

OK, I'll try again foir the kid from the remedial class :D

Cast your mind back to May last year, Moores & Parry were probably thinking something along the lines of: "great, we've qualified for the CL but we probably won't go very far, so we'll make £10m. Next season we'll do the same again and make £10m so in total by  summer 2005 we'll have made £20m"

Now THIS season, we've had an unexpectedly good run in the CL but let's say we don't win the trophy and everton pip us to 4th then Parry & Moores will be sitting there in summer 2005 counting their money and we'll still have £20m

ie same financial position as they thought we would've been in anyway ???

Yeah but is that if we lose in the final or the semi's? Losing to Chelski isn't an option so I guess it'll be the final then.

oh, whatever! :D

kerrr-ching! £20 million big ones please!! :D

Hi to all liverpool fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a newbie over here and would like too express my admiration 4 our current manager. He had done so much for my beloved club for the past nine months and to no disrespect to GH had fared much better than him. His envision and passion for the club speaks volume about him and with him on the helm, many good things are to be expected in the future seasons!!!! :D

The money could potentially double if we win the whole thing, but then again Porto only got 13 million for winnin the whole thing.  So we'd be lookin at 40 million "big ones" and a hell of alot of respect, not to mention the new sponsorship deal that we'd sign with another company
