Is alonso the best passer in world football

Most of it was simple yet hugely effective short passing, Wolly, but he had 7 or 8 magnificent 50 yard balls, some hit first time with the outside of his foot.

He hit one ball to Nunez in the second half and it was like Tiger Woods driving a long one onto the green.

I hate hyping players but Alonso's performance today was a 10/10, easily as good as anything Gerrard has ever done for us. Even when he was substituted he sprinted to the sideline.

Match fit? :D

drove half way up a hill near me specifically to listen to the game on city fm, I love Aldo's Liverpool-centric punditry. He was absolutely raving about Xabi's performance

He mentioned the fact that he virtually sprinted off the field to get Igor on...  all that after a 3 month lay-off and thrown back into the deep-end with 90 glorious minutes at the Stadio Delle Alpi

Dontcha just love him?  :)

I don't think its an exageration to say that after the last 2 performances, Xabi is the new king of Anfield.

I seen the game on tv today and the Xabi's performance was easily that good. Some of hs passes were out of this world. It was an absolute joy to watch! Bet there still won't be f*ck all about it in the papers though

There's no doubt in my mind he'll become an Anfield legend in years to come.

I was thinking whilst watching MOTD.....      My (and most peoples') gut-instincts are usually right. Manure were clearly the team of the 90's and Arsenal have emerged to be the team of the new millenium so far. But I seriously think that their time is over (particularly the scum) and the dominant teams in English footy for the coming years will be us and Chelsea.

Xabi has the potential to become one of the best footballers in the world, and it looks to me like he'll be doing it with us  :)

You could be right.

I think Arsenal have gone as far as they can under Wenger. They were definitely good enough to win the Champions League, but its clear now they'll never win it under Wenger. I think they'll stagnate and eventually decline.

I know Liverpool supporters like predicting Man UTD's downfall and much of it is wishful thinking, but it seems a long time now since UTD were seen as a really dominant, all conquering side. I think the fear of them is beginning to dissipate and next year could be a hard year for them. They've got some great players, but they've got no youngsters coming through and Ferguson's signings over the past 2 or 3 years have been poor (Rooney and Heinze aside). There's a sense that the funny money that was there at the start of this decade has dried up and if Malcolm Glazier takes over, its unlikely they'll break the bank.

The thing is, UTD need to break the bank. Over the next couple of years Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, RVN and Paul Scholes will need to be replaced. Getting guys to replace them will cost bucket loads of money.

Maybe its wishful thinking, but I think Man UTD's great cycle of success is coming to an end.

Chelsea will probably dominate next year, with Arsenal and UTD scrapping it our again for 2nd place, but I think we'll start coming strong, especially in the second half of the season. It'll be interesting.

Interesting indeed, football's very cyclical and just like anybody who in the late 80's said we were on the way out, plenty of people would laugh at me for saying manure are yesterday's team but it's the truth.

OK, they're not exactly sh*t or anything just yet, but as well as having to replace many their key players they will also have to replace the man who brought them all their success - Fergie. Love him or hate him, he's a hell of an act to follow and I get the impression that there's just too much "trouble at t'mill" at old trafford for things to work out for them.

Good things to come for LFC, Alonso's passes are mint.  Gerrard not quite but you get the feeling he'll start calming down now that the entire load is not on his shoulders.

that was the best passing display I have ever seen by a midfielder in , some of those balls were 60-70 yards and he found his man feet every time. It was a superhuman performance and Rafa has signed an absolutely world class player in Alonso, as many have said I have no doubt he will be an Anfield legend, up with the likes of Souness.

Good off the ball runs made by the rest of the team as well. but I guess the rest are running their socks off simply bacause of the confidence they have with Alonso's pass. 1st thing most of the players did when they got the ball was to lookout for Alonso, pass the ball to him to spring a 50yds through pass. I was quite surprised Spurs did not target him or man-mark him to break our rhythm. I'm sure many other teams will do that after this match.

Garcia should fit the bill. I remembered he took a couple of penalties this season and they were both expertly executed. I thought Nando could take pens too... no? Gerrard should possibly be the 4th or 5th name to take the pen but too greedy and tried to be too flashy imo

We have our own David Beckham as far having the skill to miss penalties.
