The first i watched the world cup was 98 i was actually in France at the time i was lucky enough to get tickets for the final  :)

My first memory was Micheal owen goal against Argentina the run and the finish was world class  :) but i can't forget Beckham kick at Simeone i think it was class

My best moment would you believe was Senegal beating France i don't think anyone would of gave us a chance of beating them.Especially with Cisse top scorer in the French league,Henry top scorer in the premiership and Trezguet top scorer in Serie A.It was a great moment for Senegal when Diouf setup Diop to tap it in the empty net after that result everyone in Senegal wanted the team to come home cus we had just beaten the holders on the world cup. I was still at school then and the game was at lunchtime and i was watching it at school in the hall  :)  the games were held at some crazy hours i remeber waking up at 6am just to watch some of the games  :D

i remember the 78 finals, as ian says the tickertape finals. i was at butlins at pwythelli. i remember harry hahn (something like that, his brother also played for holland) hitting a screamer that flew in the top corner in one game. it seemed like he hit it from the halfway line. i have seen it since and he must have been 30 yards out.

1970 World cup finals in Mexico.Bobby Moore the England captain was arrested in Boggata for allegedley stealing a bracelet from a jewlers shop a few days before the tournament started.
This was the tournament that Gordon Banks(The best goalkeeper in the world) made the famous save from a point blank header from Pele in a 2-2 draw. The next game saw England play W.Germany in a rematch of the 1966 final.England were without Banks for this one he was unable to play due to food poisining, his place in goal was taken by Peter Bonnetti the Chelsea keeper.England went into a 2 goal lead but still lost 3-2 .
Even if England had of beaten the Germans Idont belive they would have retained the trophy.Brazil went onto to win the cup after beating the Germans in the semi final and meeting Italy in the final.
Iwas 10 years old at the time and remember going to my uncles house to watch the final,he was the only meber of the family who had a colour telly at the time.Brazil had a great team at the time(When dont they) Pele,Jarzhino,Tostaou,Carlos Alberto brilliant.Italy were Italy  nothing spectacular but plugging away and reaching the final.I can remember Jarzhino and Ithink Carlos Alberto scoring for Brazil and Ithink Riviera scored for Italy, there were more goals than that though IthinkIt finished 4-2.(I can never remember scores, couldnt tell you how Liverpool got on a couple of weeks ago)
That was the first World cup Ican remember and were my love affair with football began.

a few images of 74 but probably 78 is the one i can remember watching and studying the pull out`s in the papers of who plays who - and religiously writing the scores down on the chart.
younger forum members probably dont realise how exiting it was in those days, the only live games on the telly where the fa, league and european cup finals so to have a month of live games was like paradise to a young footy mad lad like me.
simple things like the exotic kits of holland and peru were the talk of the playground for weeks. we`d all go to jack sharps sports shop on lower breck to see if he had the subbuteo teams of the country`s playing that night, couldnt afford them but we just used to stare at them in awe.
and you`d imitate the comentators in the streets - KEMPES!! ONE NIL!
great days. :D

You have hit the nail on the head there regarding the tv coverage of football,we all looked forward to the final but also realised another 4 years to wait for more of the same.Nowadays we can watch football virtually anytime we like, maybe its just nostalgia but they were happy days.
Does anyone rememberwhen Brazil played Cameroon/Zaire not sure which,A free kick for Brazil outside the box,a defensive wall goes up the referee blows his whistle and a defender runs out of the wall and boots the ball 50 yards down the field.Brilliant. :D
