20 reasons... - Why i love supporting liverpool

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I just thought I'd share with y'all the 20 reasons why I love supporting the mighty Reds.

1. The History - If you ask anyone who has taken any interest in football over the past 50 years, which club is the best ever, they will tell you "Liverpool" (if they are telling the truth). 42 seasons of finishing in the top 10 of this country, the league, cup and European glories. The personallities like Crazy Horse, Shankly, King Kenny and so many more. The stories and memorabilia from the history of this club could occupy a space the size of the Natural History Museum and the stories could keep every theatre in the west end going for days and days. This club is football and football history is Liverpool f.c.

2. Patience - We know what winning takes and so when we have a blip, we don't start calling for heads to roll immediatly unlike Everton fans who consider one loss as the end of the season.

3. The Merseyside Derby - There is no other football match quite as important as this one. The Manchester and various London derbys don't get half as many viewers or half as much exposure. I've only ever been to two of these games, and I was pretty young back then, but all I can really remember is the passion and excitment, which I have never witnessed since. I'll have to go again some day soon. I can't wait.

4. Transfer speculations - In the current climate where we seem to be slightly lagging in the race, but we are still being linked with such exciting talent as SWP, Aimar and Baraja. There is still a door open for top talent at Anfield and the recent arrivals of Alonso, Morientes and Cisse prove that.

5. The Acadamy - We have a proud tradition of producing some of the best talent in the country. If we look at the last batch of Owen, Gerrard and Carragher. Not bad, eh? Now we have the likes of Wornock, Potter and Welsh who, although they still have a lot to learn, they are coming along.

6. The Spanish Connection - We have a whole market cornered. Spanish players who want to play abroad under an accomplished manager now think Liverpool and that can only be good.

7. The Compassion - I have never met a nicer and closer group of people as I have met at Anfield. Liverpool fans support each other and not just the club. As a club we have suffered tragedy that cannot be compared to any other, but we have come through it and support everybody involved. The recent Tsunami match proved how caring everybody is and I feel incredibly proud and humbled to be part of this clubs support.

8. Steven Gerrard - Say what you like about his recent form, but to use a cliche, he is Liverpool through and through, cut him in half and he bleeds...er... red!

9. Hating Man Ure - I would have hated Man Ure even if I were a Djurgardens supporter. Being part of a club that hates them like no other (well, maybe Man City) just sweetens the deal.

10. Knowing How to do it - There isn't much that can explain the fact that we are still in Europe, except knowledge. With all our problems, we are still there and are looking forward to taking on Juve. That sort of experience is priceless.

11. Against All Odds - Injuries have dominated this season. Before the international break we only had 10 fit players and none of the were strikers (and two were goalkeepers). And we still beat Bolton. Ok, it wasn't particularly pretty, but the players got the job done.

12. Red - It's my favorite colour. It's what persuaded me to follow my Dad's team instead of my Mum's (which is Spurs, yuk!). I know it's not the best reason, but what do you expect, I was 5 yrs old.

13. Goals, goals, goals - I was just thinking about it, and it may be due to my terrible memory, but I can't remember the last 0-0 draw in the Prem. Nice and exciting. Just the way I like it.

14. Quality - Despite the numerous flops at Anfield these days we still have players like Gerrard, Riise, Carragher, Cisse, Hyypia, Morientes, Alonso, Garcia, Finnan, Hamann and Baros. Sweet.

15. The Kop - You name me a more famous, brilliant stand in the world. Go on. I dare you!

16. Shankly Quotes - "If Everton were playing at the end of my garden, I'd close the curtains" Need I say more...

17. Hope - I know that we are not were we all think we should be. But we are getting better. Just look at the fact that we are still fifth in the Prem, after all we've had to deal with over the season. The injuries, a new regime finding it's feet, the injuries, new players settling in, the loss of Owen and the 20 goals he would have given us and, of course, the injuries. We're still fighting. We're still up there and considered one of the big 4. I can't wait for the day we lift the Prem for the first time. And I'm sure it will be sooner rather than later.

18. Interest - Between L4, the Arabian Sheik, Steve Morgan, Venezuala and Thailand, it's good to know that people still want LFC. I know we're not all in favor, but you've got to admit that it gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. To feel wanted, is to feel loved.

19. This forum - I'm proud to be part of a community of fans who are so intelligent and articulate. I'm not just trying to sweeten you all up, it's true. I know I haven't done much recently on this site, but it's good to know that newkit is always here. I can't get to Anfield as much as I would like to, so it's nice to be able to get the opinions and feelings of all the other fans. Thanks.

20. It's Liverpool - Simple as that really. I could probably give you twenty reasons why I find Liverpool unbarably frustrating, but it would still be Liverpool and I would still be a Liverpool fan. I wouldn't know how to be anything else.

It's down to our terrible memory alright. We drew 0-0 with Blackburn 2 weeks ago.

but that is the only 0- 0 we have played out in the league this seasin, their was also the 0-0 against Depor at Anfield in the CL.
