yo,

Mike Marsh was an ok player dude. I mean, he was scoring some important goals in a very ordinary liverpool team. Although he was not exactly a classy player, he gave 100%. Quite sad to see him and don hutchison go to west ham for julian DICK.

Hysen was satisfactory player, but he was supposed to be play centre-back, he was one of best centre back in Europe at the past. He played right back for Liverpool, couldn't believe that.

I don't agree about Walters cos he had up and down spells with Liverpool, remember he scored against Auxerre in injury time in UEFA Cup match, what a night!

One of Houllier's first signings, if not THE first, signed from Istanbulspor.  He made two appearances.  I remember watching him pre-season at the time, he looked fat, podgy, short and nothing at all special.  I thought the signs were not good at all for the future of Liverpool if this was the calibre of player Houllier liked.  I remember he signed a few bargain basement non-entities like this who were hardly household names.....Sami Hyypia, relegated defender Stephane Henchoz, and who can forget Eric Meijer?

At the time, a mate of mine was playing at Melwood, and turning out regularly with the reserves.  He was a young player who signed professional terms under Roy Evans.  When Houllier took over, he shipped my mate out to a lower division club.  I remember my mate telling me at the time: "He's getting rid of everyone and signing all his French bum-chums from abroad."

Alledgedly, rumour has it Houllier signed Ferri purely to infiltrate the squad and report back to Houllier with any kind of mis-behaviour inside and outside the dressing room.  Whether or not he did report back to Houllier, and if Houllier signed him for this purpose is debatable.  The players did see him as a kind of 'spy' though.

Don't forget, these were the days of the Spice Boys, with a clique of English players led by Paul Ince ruling the roost.  It's fair to say that some of them didn't like Houllier.  Ferri didn't last long at Anfield, but by then, Houllier had made enough mental notes about enough players himself to warrant them leaving Anfield.

He got his squad number taken off him the season after he signed.  I'm trying to find some old squad photographs on the web but i'm having no luck.
