HAMBURG READY TO MOVE FOR BISCAN
Daily Post

HAMBURG are lining up a summer move for Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan, according to the player’s agent.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at Anfield at the end of this season and has so far failed to hold down a regular role in Rafael Benitez's plans.

And Biscan's agent, Gordon Stipic, has now revealed the German club's interest as the Croatian considers his options with just two months of the season remaining.

"I know that Hamburg are thinking about him," revealed Stipic.

"In the next two or three weeks things could become more concrete, but first we will have to talk to Liverpool about Igor's future."

Hamburg coach Thomas Doll watched Biscan in both Champions League encounters against Bayer Leverkusen, with the club's director of football Dietmar Beiersdorfer joining Doll for the second leg at the BayArena.

Biscan played for 90 minutes in both victories and excelled, just as he had earlier in the season in Deportivo La Coruna.

He is the second Liverpool player currently being monitored by Hamburg, with Dietmar Hamann having been on the Bundesliga side's wishlist for months.

Midfielder Hamann is also out of contract at the end of the current campaign and, like Biscan, is yet to discover where his future lies.

Talks over Hamann's future have been put on hold until next month, but it is thought the 31-year-old's recent form will be enough to convince Benitez to offer him at least a one-year extension.

Whether the club will offer any kind of new deal to Biscan, however, is uncertain.

Despite his form in the Champions League, the midfielder has made only fleeting appearances in the Premiership and has failed to deliver a consistent level of performance.

The Croatian midfielder, who is enjoying his best season yet in a red shirt, has been a much-maligned figure at times during his Anfield career.

But he admits the support of the Liverpool fans has helped him through the dark days and that they will always hold a special place in his heart.

"I feel warmth from the fans and it is something that makes me proud. If I'm completely honest, of course, it makes me happy," says Biscan.

"I don't know the reason for it but they have always supported me when I was playing badly and through the good times. I will always remember that.

"It is important for every player to have a good relationship with the fans. The Liverpool fans aren't just like this with me, they do it with every player, especially when they feel they are going through a bad period.

"This is why they are some of the best around, certainly in England and probably the world."
