finally im glad this season we got more goals from the midfield with gerrard, garcia and riise bagging about 20 goals between them, only problem is though our strikers havent scored that many, normally owen would get 25 but no1 else would pitch in, ideally i would like more goals from midfield consistently, look at pires, lampard and scholes etc etc and thats not even to mention ljungberg, giggs, or duff, so we need to keep this up, i havent heard of mintal but he sounds good but i think we have gone past the point of buying potential stars cos we have shot ourselves in the foot too many times, we need to buy big game players, proven players on the big stage,

Was Xabi Alonso a proven player on the big stage? Was a he big name? How many of us can honestly say that we've heard of him and seen him play more than once before signing with us?

Was Downing a proven player for Boro? I don't think so.

We've shot ourselves in the foot mostly because of Houllier who bought players but could not get anything out of them or players who could do well in the p1ss poor French league but couldn't get the job done in the Premiership.

well he took sociedad to 2nd in the league in 2002-03 and played in the champions league in 2003-04, played in euro 2004 and was touted as a real madrid future signing, im not sure if this counts as unknown or not playing on the big stage but if it doesnt hell i wanna see some players who are well recognised!!
