Its official! - Everton will not qualify for the cl.....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby el_stinger » Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:01 am

This would happen only if we win the Champions League, there was numerous discussions a while back about the legality of such, and that if we win would we kick Everton off, or what would happen in such an event. However now UEFA have seen that this could be a possibility, and have stated that the winner of the CL would gain automatic entry to the comp, at the expense of the last placed qualifyed team.

from skysports.com

Everton have been warned that they could miss out on the UEFA Champions League, if local rivals Liverpool go on to win the competition.
Uefa have confirmed that only four teams from any one nation will be allowed entry to next season's competition.
If Liverpool remain outside of the top four at the season's end, a victory for The Reds in the European flagship club competition would mean they receive automatic qualification.
The number of league places that qualify would then be reduced to three - meaning that, as it stands, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal would be granted entry.
The news will come as an enormous blow to Everton, who may well now be dependant on their neighbours bowing out of the tournament.
Liverpool sealed their progression through to the quarter finals of the Champions League with victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, but are some way off the pace in the Premiership.
Rafa Benitez's men are eight points behind The Toffees - and now a major up-turn in form is necessary to pin back their neighbours.

Winning the CL...I will rather not think about it right now unless we know who we draw next. We need to have some of the fortunes of Monaco and Porto in the passage draw so that facing relatively "smaller" teams and let the traditional heavyweights eliminate each other first. This is because our squad is rather thin at the moment especially on the creativity side without Alonso and
pr!cks like Kewell not wanting to play but sitting on his fat wages.

Also, we need to get some winning consistency and hope Everton slip up in the EPL.

... The CL is effectively a cup competition now.. and over two legs anything can happen.. lets wait and see what happens.. this club is made for the big european nights.. look what we did against Olympiacos.. we got the 3 goals.. the other night Ars.e only needed 2..

Whilst being good in the league (welll sort of) Ars.e can't do it in Europe..

should i start to tell you about how porto, valencia got in the first spot in europe? or greece became the king of europe?
where are at that moment the alikes of real madrid, barca, manure, arsenal?
where at this moment in CL the same clubs above?

the victory is not necessarily located on legs, but mainly in chests.

No hearts as big as Liverpool

Hate to tell you this, but even if Liverpool pull off the amazing and win the CL and that is a massive IF, Everton will still qualify for the opening rounds IF they finish fourth. A Uefa spokesman, talking to Sky Sports News yesterday stated that if Liverpool win, England could have 5 teams in next seasons CL. Sorry, but that's straight from the horses mouth and the T*ffees could still get in should they finish fourth.

None, but there will be one less team allowed to progress through the qualifying rounds. That's just a guess to be honest with you but I was just repeating what I had heard. I'd love it if we did screw Everscum out of it, but I've just been checking up on it and there was an extra Portuguese (spelling?) team in the qualifiers last year because Porto were automatic. I can't remember that happening when Man Ure won it in this country, but the CL has changed in other ways since then. God knows what will happen really as Uefa are dab hands and creating rediculous bi-laws and clauses. Anyway, for this discussion to be worth anything, LFC still have to actually win the CL. Aren't we counting our chickens...?

if everton got the 4th spot and liverpool wins the CL, i am convinced they will offer the place to us for next year, cause naturally the champion deserves to defend the cup and liverpool matches promise more profits for the organizers than everton.
