Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

can i first of all say congratulations to the manager and the players on last nights performance. i thought we would go through but i could never see us winning the game so convincingly. infact when you see us play like that, it's unbelievably frustrating to see our ineptitude in the premiership, especially away from home. ok, we were helped by one of the most inept home performances i've ever seen in the champions league, but even with their strongest team out, we'd still have won handsomely.

quite ironic actually that rafa was in an irish bar watching manure go out the other day with the fans chanting "get the beer in". :D i'm sure if he went back there last night he wouldn't have had to fork out a penny, such was the impressiveness of our display. ok, ok, lets not get carried away. we are only in the quarter finals, but this was a victory against a team who hammered bayern munich 4-1 the other week.

steven gerrard, in my opinion gave his BEST EVER performance in a liverpool shirt, even by his lofty standards. that is the level he has to now try and maintain. he's had a lot of stick from certain quarters over the last few weeks but last night he answered all the doubters as to whether he wants to stay at this club. he set the tone with a crunching tackle on placente after 30 seconds, made the first with a world class cross, had a hand in the second and very nearly scored himself.

as for luis garcia, that my friends was evidence of what he can bring to the table. yes he's frustrating at times, but when things come off for him, he's a class act. the flick for his first goal was top drawer.

i'm also pleased for milan to get back on the scoresheet. he should have had a blatant penalty in the first half but he took his goal well.

all in all, the game was just further evidence that we are a side who are much more suited to european football than domestic football. rafa's european approach is evidently helping us to progress. infact if you look at the two english teams through, their managers are the current champions league and uefa cup holding managers. coincidence? i think not. this sets them apart from the likes of wenger. arsenal are great at home, but are unable to transfer that form into europe year in year out.

so a great night for all but it's now back to the bread and butter next week. that sort of performance will see us wipe the floor with everton, and i mean wipe the floor. :D

here's to hoping!

YNWA :)
