Hamman substitution - 2002?2005?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Did everyone notice the substitution of Hamann with Smicer in the 62nd minute ?? This was when we had the game sewn up - overall 5-1 on agg. at the time.....
Well in 2002, GH made the same sub - Hamann for Smicer - in the 61st min !!!! What is RB trying to do ???? He knew we couldn't be caught.......
I think trying to erase the ghost of 2002 ! No doubt about it.....

???

Isn't Hamman on a yellow card in the competition ? If so ,with the game already won wouldn't it make sense to sub him and avoid the chance of him picking up another which would stop him playing in the next round ? .

Oh yeah ....could be....

Maybe RB was trying to save Hamann from the yellow card and trying to erase the ghost of 2002 by subbing him with the same player in the same minute !!!

Not just yet because I wanted to point out that Hamann is always the true professional. He saw his number come up and jogged of the field without complaining, even though he played well and was playing in his home country.  I think he is an unsung hero in this team, and model for other players to follow. Hope he stays.

I agree mate, sometimes Hamann isn't credited enough for what he does and what he has done at the club. I think it would be a big loss if we don't finalize an extension to his contract with him, although considering his age he still is a quality player and could be for a few years yet.

Just a question here, is Carragher on a yellow to or was he just given a rest?

Don't these yellows get cleared once the group stages are finished?

If Carra do get suspended for a third yellow, who can replace him? no more established CenterBacks unless you go with Hyypia and Traore, Warnock going to left back. by the way, the hamann subsitution (same minute, and same player, smicer) might just be coincidental, or maybe Rafa just wanted to have a joke with everyone cuz the game is already sealed up.

Aye i think carra, hamann and finnan were all on yellows which is why they got subbed.

We could really struggle if carra gets suspended so that was a good move taking him off

The hamann sub brought back painful memories though!

RB said after the game he took them off because they wer on yellow cards.  I presume the fact we had it wrapped up early on helped him make this decision.

Good on him I say  :)
