Do you recall the goal Barcelona (Overmars) scored in 2001-02 against us at Anfield.  They strung about twenty passes together.  I felt like throwing a brick through the telly but there was nothing that could be done about the goal.

You've just got to hold your hands up sometimes and say that it was one of those occasions when you have just witnessed football at it's purest.

I know what you're saying and i do remember that goal overmars put past us, and yes i can now appreciate how good it was looking back.

But my point is that at the time it happened (i wasn't at the game myself), it is the fans' job to lift the team when they concede a goal, not sit back and applaud the opponents.

After the game has passed you can appreciate the goal all you want.

It doesn't make me a thug to hold this view, its just what i think supporting a team is all about

in the days of glory, all LFC fans, and koppites appreciated good football out of respect. whilst we were spanking them good and proper - rightly so

nonetheless, the chav culture creaping in may destroy the illustrious glory that is Liverpool

rain check yerself mate, no one is saying your a thug. Jmac is just keeping perspective etc etc

Get a grip

No way am I suggesting we "applaud " a team for playing well against us DURING the game (although in years gone by that has happend) . I was simply stating that there are times (post match, and particularly if we've been beaten) when we don't acknowledge that another team has played some outstanding football . Instead we just hurl a tirade of abuse ,sometimes justified but not always . Acknowledging that another team played better than us is sometimes seen as a hanging offence and your loyalty to LFC is questioned .Stupid  really.

i`ve stood and clapped arsenal at anfield when they nicked the title in the last minute at anfield, in fact i remember clapping the leicester team off at anfield when they beat us 3-2 back in the days when we hadn`t lost a home game for 2 years. and as for the receptions the away keepers used to get from the old kop - well they were something special.
but to me sportsmanship is a two way thing, and the way mourinho dances around after a victory just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. i dont think he shows the opposition enough respect. he was even in the press moaning about diving, even after joe cole`s and duffs springboard job against us at cardiff!! i even used to admire the old leeds side when everyone used to lambast them, but they didnt carry on like mourinho does. chelsea are a good side but for me the managers antics bring them down in my eyes.

Hi Woof Woof, they play it after EVERY game there mate :D

I agree with the spirit of your thread though and with the exception of Man United I think when we get beat by the better team playing superb football  to do so then you have to hold your hands up and give credit where credit is due.

It proves if nothing else that sportmanship is alive an dkicking at LFC at least even if you don't see much of it anywhere else in the prem

:) ???

In the spirit of the thread  , yes i agree with woof about watching good football and appreciating  when entertaining football is played ( Newcastle v Liverpool in the 90s .....classic games ) . There are exceptions to the  teams you appreciate tho  (  the scum obviously ) , but when  a team is soundly beating us i really dont appreciate it at all ,  lets face it we are Liverpool supporters and as such want our team to win all the games  we play , so even tho  i love to watch entertaining football i dont want it at the expence of us loosing.
Yes im angry and upset when we loose  as all of us are  , either because its that we played  badly or threw the game away . One game that springs to mind is when we were 2-0 up against Chelsea at the  end of the  first half , yet were beaten 4-2  ! why ??? that kinda thing really gets to me . We deserved to loose that game , i hate saying it  but we did , to throw away a 2-0 lead and loose 4-2 was a disgrace , but  also you have to say  Chelsea came back fromthe dead , and any team that does that  deserves some sort of  respect ........even grudgingly .

Have to say about Cheslea with all the money spent over the last year or so . I work with a lad who is a life long Chelsea supporter and he  loves to brag about  how great they are.

It was lovely to reming him that any team that builds a squad over time  and wins the league  has respect or grudging respect from ever other teams supporters  because they had done it the age old way . To come along and spend hundreds of millions  by a  sugar daddy to win the league simply doesnt get any respect from anyone........" why ? " he asked .  So i explained to him that any team can spend 200 million  and win the league , Blackburn did it in the 90s  and if Abramovich  took a likeing to Norwich or Port Vale .......or even Torquay  and had  spent money on  them like he has done with Chelsea then they would win the  Premiership also .
Point is , is that  I dont know of anyone  who has respect for Chelsea  for winning the Premiership because as soon as Abramovich is in jail  , Cheslea  will   drop down the league and possibly even out of it , and that the title was simply bought :blues:
