i saw this today on liverpoolfc.tv
Rafael Benitez tonight addressed the world's media inside the BayArena and insisted that despite taking a clear two-goal advantage to Germany, he won't be sending out his players to defend from the first whistle.
Liverpool need only avoid a defeat by two clear goals in Germany to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Benitez believes the best way of ensuring that happens is to attack Leverkusen from the kick-off.
"We know how important this game is," Benitez said. "We know how well Bayer Leverkusen can play at home and no matter what the result was at Anfield, we know we will have to be at our best against Leverkusen because they are a great team at home.
"I am sure they will try to play with a high tempo and intensity and we will try to do the same. I don't know how to start a game with only defence in mind. Sometimes the best form of defence is attack. We will try to score a goal and keep a clean sheet. If you just go out to defend for 90 minutes then you can make things very difficult for yourself."
the confusing part is where he says that he does not know how to start a game with only defence in mind, can anyone explain then why he has done this for our last two games?
he then basically goes on to admit that he has f*cked up the last two games by admitting that you can not go out and defend for 90 minutes, also pointing out what i have said all along, the best form of defence is attack, let the other team worry about us as opposed to defending 90 minutes while we all sit there sh!tting ourselves in the knowledge that the other team will break us down eventually. anyway know he has said this, if he plays 4-5-1 again tonight i will be very dissapointed, i know we are short on forwards but we still need to play 2 up front.
