Moores ready to sell! - According to a tabloid...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The Ace1983 » Sun Mar 06, 2005 9:17 am

Just been watching sky sports news and according to a tabloid, whose name I didn't get, David Moores is prepared to listen to offers for his 51% share in the club. I think the paper was the Mirror who I normally wouldn't trust in the slightest, but in the recent past they have got a few things right. They were the first to link us with Rafa, Xabi Alonso and they were also the first to predict the late departure of Michael Owen to Real Madrid (about 2 months prior to it actually happening). Now don't get me wrong, I still don't believe this 100% but after Parry's comments on 5Live and the speculation that has been going on for nearly the whole season, I don't feel that it should just be disregarded straight away.

I have been in favor of a change behind the scenes for a long time and if an Arabian Sheik or an American business group feel like plying us with millions, I would welcome them.

However, I haven't found any more credible sources yet, but I will keep looking. Anyone else heard anthing more concrete?

let's be honest about it though. To close the gap on the top 3 in the near future (a sizeable gap at the minute) we need a ****** load of funds. Unless Moores is going to put in a sizeable amount of his own funds for transfers then we may need to be bankrolled by someone like L4.

not qualifying for the champions leagye Imo would mean Gerrard is gone, even if we finish 4th he may go. So there is possibly 30-40 million, plus sales of deadwood and whatever other funds we can scrape together. We need 4 or 5 top quality players to come in during the summer and I think the stadium should be canned until we have got the team sorted out.

If we have a 60 000 seater stadium it will proably only sell out for Everton, Manu, Chelsea and Arsenal as well as CL games. We don't sell out all our home games at the moment with a 45 000 seater so I think we should put the money into the team to bring success and from that success brings more funds from prize money, endorsements etc etc which can be used for the stadium.

If there is any truth in it then like most LFC fans i would welcome it, moores should have sorted this out earlier in the season when rumors were flying around regarding possible involvements with foreign business and offers coming from morgan, allthis stalling and dithering has put us further back moores should have had the clubs best intrest in mind and not his own selfish motives. ???

There have been others on this forum saying Moores was in a desperate position for some time. No money to move forward on and therefore need to attract investment but the question was always how much of his ownership to give up.

The original £70m is not enough if they go ahead with the stadium, we should be using the money to buy players not pipe dreams. Only when we have a wining team do we go for the stadium.

I seem to remember Redrider and the kinda/biffa/Turdy banging on about this and it looks they had the scent!

I agree, we should concentrate on building a team, and forget about a new stadium until we have a team worthy to grace it. Moores is an ostirch he has had his head buried under the sand for too long, he has let our once great club slip into decline and mediocority it will take massive investment to haul us back, he could have avoided all this if he would have had the bottle to get rid of houillier sooner than he did and this would have saved a lot of wasted transfer money being spent on average sh.t players.

The stadium was only a monument to Moores anyway and if he goes then hopefully we will concentrate of players after all we have already spent £6m on what?

Newspaper reports today claim that Liverpool chairman David Moores is ready to resign from his position and sell his major shareholding in the club.

It is reported that the penny has finally dropped in that a minor investment would solve nothing at Anfield especially because of the escalating costs relating to the proposed new stadium.

There are though question marks relating to today's claims. First of all the newspapers in question aren't the most reliable. We've seen two reports today on this subject and they're basically identical because they're from sister papers so there's no extra weight to the claims just because more than one newspaper is carrying this one. There's also no quotes and no mention of who Moores is looking to sell to. There is though the usual reference to Kraft, Morgan and the Thais.

We'd support a major investment (subject to the ins and outs meeting our approval) from either L4 or Steve Morgan. Both claim to have cooled their interest after becoming frustrated with Parry and Moores slamming the doors in their faces. KopTalk understands that both parties would invest if Parry and Moores finally accepted that a major (not minor) investment was needed.

How does the fact that minor investment doesn't do anything which is precisely what some people have been banging on about and getting a pasting for it for some time.

Look guys unless we get money and soon we aint going anywhere for the next 10 years period. We have too many failing players and need to start getting a few proven strikers etc.

Things always have to change and Liverpool need a new plan. The way we are going about things just aint working anymore. How long are we going to drift around like this. We hire managers, one of the best if not the best in Benitez, and whilst its early days for him it doesnt look like hes going to move us any higher up the league than Houllier. You can only start to look behind the scenes for answers when good managers cannot improve the performance level. It may well be the press reacting to another dissapointing display, but I hope not.

.. All I know is that we need a huge cash injection to help the Boss build a title winning team... we are in serious danger of permanently falling behind the other three... whatever happens.. the club must get the right investor and give the Boss the funds to put the Red Machine back on the rails.. and soon
