Harry Kewell, Djimi Traore, Josemi, Jerzy Dudek, all doubts for saturday, Traore and Kewell picked up knocks on sunday which resulted in Djimi and Harry getting subbed.
Dudek had 10 stitches to a deep wound in his leg.
Carson is hoping to make his debut on saturday.
:(  ffs when you thought things couldnt go worse.
We need Troare he played well on sunday kept Duff quiet, it seemed to go pear shaped when he went off.

LATEST INJURY NEWS FROM ANFIELD
Paul Eaton 02 March 2005

A striker is ruled out for the rest of the season, a defender faces two weeks on the sidelines while several other players are fighting to be fit for the weekend. Here's the latest Anfield injury news.

Neil Mellor

Neil is suffering from tendonitis and will undergo surgery on both knees on Thursday that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

Josemi

Josemi had a scan today which showed a torn lining at the back of his right knee following last night's reserve game against Manchester United. This is a new injury which is expected to keep him out for two weeks.

Jerzy Dudek

Jerzy required ten stitches in a gash in his shin after the Carling Cup final defeat. He will be fit for the weekend clash at Newcastle.

Harry Kewell

Harry received kicks on both ankles in the Carling Cup Final. He trained on Wednesday and should be available for selection at St James Park.

Dietmar Hamann

Didi is suffering with a badly bruised shin. He didn't train on Wednesday but is expected to be fit for the weekend.

Injury worries for Rafa ahead of Toon clash Mar 2 2005

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL returned to training today for the first time since their Carling Cup disappointment, with Rafa Benitez sweating on the fitness of several players.

Djimi Traore, Jerzy Dudek and Harry Kewell picked up knocks in the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea.

Defender Josemi, who made his comeback for the reserves last night, will also undergo a scan after twisting his knee in the second string's 1-0 loss to Manchester United.

Traore has a thigh injury, Kewell took a kick on the ankle, while Jerzy Dudek had 10 stitches due to a gashed shin.

Benitez (pictured) faces the daunting prospect of picking up his players for a crucial trip to Newcastle.

Should the eight point gap with Everton increase prior to the derby, the prospect of qualifying for the Champions League will be remote.

Even UEFA Cup qualification is uncertain with Middlesbrough, Bolton and Spurs realistic contenders for one of the two Euro spots.

Liverpool's defeat in Cardiff means an extra UEFA place goes to the Premiership, with fifth and sixth rewarded. It's the more lucrative prize of fourth which is essential.

Any chance of keeping Steven Gerrard rests on Champions League qualification, although Chelsea may have scuppered their chances of luring him following their antics on Sunday.

The events in Cardiff helped every other major club in Europe if the captain moves on.

Meanwhile, the lukewarm possibility of a return for Michael Owen this summer could also increase with the lure of the Champions League.

Rafa Benitez needs to be convinced to bring Owen back, but if he has more finances at his disposal it may persuade him.

With Milan Baros illadvised tantrums effectively ensuring his Anfield career won't last beyond the summer, Benitez is sure to be trailing Europe for another top goalscorer.

Are you asumming that if (big IF)  Owen returned to us, Rafa would adopt Houlliers tactics ?
Thought you had more faith than that AB.

I've lost count of the number of times I watched opportunties go begging and thought "MO would have had that " . I'd have no problem if he returned but doubt it will happen.

No I am saying that certain players would resort back to hoofing the ball to Michael Owen instead of passing the ball. Yes Michael Owen would had scored if he were given the chances like Baros has had but it's time to move on.

We miss Owen as much as we miss Xabi Alonso, and if I was Rafa I would pull out all stops to get him back into our team.
And if there is a massive clear out in the summer which looks on the cards, alot of the players from the Houllier era will have left the club.
Think its quite safe to say next season with a few more additions we will probably be playing 4-5-1, this is why I dont think Baros is in Rafas plans, as he will throw a tantrum when dropped.
Same could be said with Michael Owen he has sat on eals bench and wouldnt like it either, but we have alot of games in the prem, the players would get rotated.

I was listening to Michael Owen on the radio, about his life in Spain etc etc, and they asked him about the game on sunday all he kept saying was WE, We this and that refering to Liverpool.
So his hearts still at our club, he knows he made a big mistake.
And he thinks people will see him as a failure if he should return to the prem.
This is not true, also when the interviewer asked him would he come back to Liverpool he said yes he might in the  future. He didnt rule it out.

Players like Riise,Hyypia,Carra[at times] seem to hoof the ball at times when they shouldn't have to, not a lot but sometimes and if Owen would to come back old habbits might be reawakened.

Which isn't going to happen imo. If he wanted to stay with us he would had stayed, he needed a fresh start and I don't think he will return to the EPL.

He will return to the prem for the sake of his international career he loves playing for England and he will be terrified of loosing his place.

He wants to play Champions League Football now where will  he get that other than us a club he said he would not return to?

Man Utd? No, Chelsea? No, Arsenal? I don't think so.[the way Arsenal are going they won't last more than the group stage in the Champions League]

I see Owen going to another Spanish club or somewhere in Italy.

These players have never brought the ball out of defence and their preferred option has been to "hoof " it . Under Rafa however they have played far more short ball's to the left ,right and centre mid players ,I see no reason whatsoever why they should ignore Rafa's instruction and revert to old habits just because Owen is playing up front .
Anyway if Owen was in the team I would expect to see Morientes playing furthest forward as the target man with Owen (or Cisse or A.N.Other ) playing off him .
If Owen leaves Madrid but didn't come to us then I hope he does stay away from the premiership ,this mans football ability hasn't peaked yet !!!

This is what the starting line up will probably look like

                        Dudek

Finnan    Carragher     Hyypia       Riise/Warnock

Nunez    Gerrard       Hamann      Kewell/Riise

             Baros        Morientes

I don't expect Kewell to play the whole game so I can see Rafa bringing on Warnock and Riise going on the wing with Warnock as a LB.
