Carra crowned merseyside's - Sports personality of the year

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Well done Jamie lad :)

By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

JAMIE CARRAGHER insists Liverpool's disappointment against Chelsea will eventually prove a minor setback in Rafa Benitez's masterplan to lead the club into a new era of success.

The Anfield defender, who was last night crowned Merseyside's Sports Personality of the Year, is certain Benitez will take the club into many more finals.

And he's adamant the memories of Cardiff last weekend will soon be banished once Benitez's work is complete.

"This is only the start of a long project for Rafa Benitez and I'm sure he'll be taking us to many finals in the years to come," said Carragher.

"Obviously we're all desperately disappointed with the result, but we can take a lot of positives from it.

"If we had won, it would have meant a lot to us and given the club a massive lift, but the gaffer will be here for at least four or five more years so this is just the start for him.

"We've pushed a team which is considered one of the best in Europe all the way.

"We were 11 minutes from beating them and, after watching the game back on video, you can also see we were denied a definite penalty.

"Some decisions didn't go our way on the day and it was only the smallest details which cost us the match. We'll bounce back."

Jamie with his award  were all proud of you lad.

carragher has turned his career around in a big way.
not only has he improved as a player ten fold - he has taken over as the clubs spiritual leader. when he argued with riley over the penalty that wasnt against chelsea and again with mourinho at the weekend he showed how desperate he is to make liverpool a success. in both circumstances his team mates were conspicuous by their absence, i get the feeling if it was united or arsenal the whole team would be over there backing up their pal.
i`m not condoning harassing the ref but some times you have got show you are all pulling in the same direction. even the chelsea backroom staff ran about fifteen yards to remonstrate with carragher, who only had finnan mooching about in the background for moral support.
i think the team would have gotten a lift if gerrard and others would have ran over and told mourinho where to stick his big contract.
sometimes you look at teams and you sense all the players are good mates and all are giving everything for the cause.
i dont sense that with us.

I know what your sayin mate but on the other hand, when you watch the manure and gooners all surrounding the refs its quite annoying to be honest.
But I agree with you on them all being like a they are really good team mates.
