Changes to off-side rule - And other reffing issues

did anyone see what uefa maybe doing to change the offside ruling, on tv last night??

apparantly, you may only be offside when you are in front of the opposing teams last outfield player when the ball is played to you whilst you are in the opponents penalty area. not sure that will work.

also, if a player is felled in the area by the last defender, and a penalty is awarded, but the player who offended would not be sent off, as the penalty would be punishment enough, unless he causes danger to the welfare of that player during the tackle

and finally, a player would recieve a straight red card for dangerous tackles, unlike the incident involving fabregas of arsenal against sheff utd, when he got only a yellow

what are your thoughts on these issues and others you may have??

my thoughts are that FIFA and Seth Splatter are idiots. It would ruin the game of football.

Only offside in the penalty area? Ruud would love that one (the goal hanging horse) and it would change the entire way teams play football, ergo changing football itself.

A player should be sent off if he is the last person there. Giving away the penalty is enough? Its a foul isnt it? And if players are not sent off then more people will foul. Fouling is a form of cheating and we dont want to cnodone cheating do we?

Heres the rules we do need:

You DONT get a yellow card for celebrating a goal.

You DO get a card for surrounding the ref

You DO get a card for swearng at the ref constantly (Shrek, this means you)

You DO get a card for diving

You CAN get suspended if a panel sees diving in a previous game

Football should be physical, but these divers (our players as well, everyone is doing it, its ruining the game) need to be punished so we can get back to the roots.

Just my opinion :)

The off side rules as they now stand are total bollox, The "a player is not off side if he's not involved, interferring or influencing the play" bit confuses the fk out of me , as one pundit asked "if he's not doing any of the above ,he shouldn't be in the team "  :D   Also, how many times have we seen players sneaking back from an offside position and scoring ? .

I'm all for making improvements in the game but hold to the "if it's not broke don't fix it " school.

If the offside rule gets even more complicated for referees then we will be moving closer to using tv evidence for every decision, which I don't want to see (apart from maybe deciding if the ball has passed the goal line - Roy Carroll!)

i dont think that'll happen JC, it would be like of rugby, when a score needs verifying. such as the one with roy carroll, as you point out
