My thoughts on the game

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:04 pm

morning all. i'm absolutely buzzing today. sunday can't come quickly enough.

people who are on here today who bash dudek should give it a rest. ok he made and error, but i bet we don't see people bashing baros for missing that one on one. before the game started i couldn't see us scoring three goals in a million years but i thought some of our play was superb. by rights, stevie g should not walk back in the side on sunday and igor must be aggrieved to make way for him. it was like deportivo all over again for him.

anyway, here are my match awards:

1. Man of the Match - JAR. Great touches (what about the flick over the shoulder and the nutmeg???), hard running, great free kick and a superb through ball to baros.

2. Best comeback - Harry. He showed commitment I haven't seen from him for ages, despite just coming back from an injury.

3. Shock of the day - Biscan to Garcia - Goooooaaaalllllll. You wouldn't have made the that the first part of an accumulator bet, would you!

4. Safest job in football - being in the Leverkusen wall. FFS JUMP!!!! They must have been away the day that was taught in juniors. :D

5. Most pleasing performance - Djimi. Fought hard for everything.

6. Most disappointing performance - the w#nkers on this forum who are ****** scared about losing 2-0 and going out. FFS, Dudek made an error after making some excellent stops. The worst thing about being a keeper is that your errors stand out like dogs boll#cks. Jerzy does like to keep it interesting though, doesn't he?

7. Best camera shot of the day - Stevie G smiling and clapping after Didi's goal.

This was a performance like Liverpool of old. I just hope we haven't peaked too early. Chelsea next!!! All comments on this forum should be positive and positive only.

YNWA :)

this is what we need more of, most positive approach and more optimism, the reason every1 is so disappointed is to go from the euphoria of 3-0 in 1 min to 3-1 in the next min, we have conceded 2 goals on our travels in europe in 4 games, deportivo, monaco and olympiakos and graz ak so thats a positive, we will have stevie G back and kewell and smicer will be more fitter then, perhaps neil mellor would be available to come off the bench if needed, we r in a great position and the way Bayer play i just feel we will always have chance of nicking the away goal leaving them to score 3 goals to take us to extra time and 4 to eliminate us,

I really p1ssed of the wife last night.  Came in from work, lifted my dinner of the table, carried it into the family room, slotted the 1977 Euro Cup match against Borussia Moenchengladbach, into the DVD and started my pre-match warm up.  I thought, at least I can be on a high and see what it used to be like, before I was dissapointed by our current performance.

How wrong could I have been.  The sound of Anfield cheering, was on a power with that night in Rome.  The team, in the 1st half at least, showed that dogged determination.  Riise was on fire!

And the score 3-1 just like Rome.

I was on cloud nine, hyper, I even managed to knock over the last of my Bud, when we scored the 3rd.

And then Dudek fluffed a bread & butter catch, Traore was slow reacting, sleeping you might say, and Franca scored.

Ah well.... At least it exceeded my expectations....

Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart, And you'll never walk alone

People on this (and every forum) really make me laugh.

Where were you people after the Birmingham game?

On here slagging the team, thats where.

St Michael, get off your high horse and dont make out like you never slag the players off.

We are all on here in joyous mood right now, and righly so after a good performance, but a bit of realism is required.

you telling someone to get off their high horse?

i've slagged players off in the past leon when i felt it was appropriate. after birmingham it was appropriate, mainly due to the lack of effort that most of the players put in. what changed last night? it's like jekyll and hyde.

you all just wait until we beat chelsea on sunday and lift the cup! It'll be great on here. Morientes will be a hero after scoring his two goals to win us the game.

their goal cannot at all be blamed at all on the liverpool defense, no defender expects their keeper to fluff an effort like that, so that last post was a load of rubbsih, cos i thought it was hyypia chasing the loose ball before franca scored.

dudek for me show both sides of his game, the excellent shot stopper and the liability he has been so many times this season.  good to see finnan get right in there, immense improvement in his game recently, jc was solid for me again, showed real determination and aggression even if he not the captain he makes as much noise as anybody.

riise was superb, he has really become lively in recent months

kewell done well for a comeback but looked lacklustre before being substituted, whether it be laziness or lack of match fitness i dont know.

biscan and hamman were strong and were constantly winning tackles and creating things and stopping their attacks.

garcia is working a lot harder and only sh1t out of one tackle, his tracking back was brilliant.

baros was lively, should of got his head up more and i think he is at his worse when he has got too much time in front of goal.

letalac looked like he wanted to have a go but didnt have enough time to make an impact.

looking foward to the chelsea game, and we have gerrard and morientes back, and i think resting stevie (because we havent had any fa cup games and he was suspended for the game last night) will benefit us immensely, i think we need to keep the same fight that we had last night if we are to succeed against chelsea, but the worry for me is how liverpool blow hot and cold.  it depends on what liverpool team turn up on sunday

dont want to put a downer on the game but i think that we were lucky to get away with that miss when the player put it wide of dudek, just need to iron out the mere imperfections of last night and we are looking promising to win silverware.

loved it last night watching the highlights on itv when the commentator as the game kicks off says he fancies  the germans over 2 legs(although i might be getting laughed at in 2 weeks, lets hope not)

i don't think kewell was being lazy in any way last night. he must have been knackered after the first half alone. first game for ages and its played at a tempo like that.

he was looking good at times though eh?

The tone of your post, like you know better pi$$ed me off, end of.
