Hansen - A legend?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Difference to when he played for us and now is footballers are more athletes compared to then, remember a bucket and a sponge, then back on the pitch.  Now they get legs brokefeet ankles etc........... as the games more phyisical and faster.
Even the Liverpool of old would not be winning everything in sight now. The way they used to.
And money also plays the biggest part in football now, it used to be a beautiful game now the money does the talking, shame really.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

the game may be faster but it is nowhere near as physical.
the tackling was a lot harder years ago. the likes of souness and joey jones would not have lasted ten minutes on the pitch these days. the players used to play with a lot of injuries way back then whilst these lot cry off with a slight knock. a lot of players used to retire early years ago because of the injuries e.g brian clough had to retire from playing at 23 and even alan hansen had to retire at 30.

i think theres a difference between being a legend and liverpool legend. dnont wanna burst anyones bubble but if you are not heard of around the world you cannot be a legend.
Hansen was a liverpool legend and legend of the game, but in global terms he unfortunately never got the chance to become the legend that he is in our eyes

cisse have to disagree on the physical aspect.Knee high challenges from the likes of Smithy,Ron "Chopper" Harris,"Bite yer Legs" Hunter ,dirty Bremner and many more, were often left un-punished.I certainly believe more players are fitter and faster but rules nowadays have definitely tempered the physical side.

Liverpool conquered Europe without the superstars and galacticos of the time, that was what made us so great. However that doesn't mean to say Hansen etc aren't truly great players.
