...but why rest Lampard? Did he have a bad game? was he injured or carrying an injuries? is Sven trying to protect Chelsea's player(s)?

Jamie Carragher will never be a regular international defender, but neither was Martin Keown or Steve Bould, and that didn't stop them from being tremendous defenders at Premiership level.

I don't think you can say "NEVER". Example; Season 05-06 - Liverppol go really well and concede very few goals with JC a the heart of the defence. Sol Campball suffers a serious injury and misses out on four internationals and Rio suffers a major dip in form. Sven calls on John Terry and JC to fill the void. The pair operate so successfully in their first two games (not conceding any goals or cards despite heavy pressure and would both get 10s if they were on Champ Man) and are both awarded man of the match awards. The same happens in the next two internationals. I know it's a long shot, but it could happen...

I didn't mean that as a derogatory comment against Jamie, Ace, but often with England its the glamour players that the London press like that get picked, rather than stout hearted and no frills northerners.

Lampard was cr@p and Gerrard wasnt much better second half either, Jamie was great and it goes to show you how good he will be with a younger center half with him.
No dissrespect to Hyypia but Carra played really well.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

in the metro (londno mornig free rag) carragher got greta reviews, and in bbcsport.co.uk he got man of the match.
People are starting to realise that altho he will never be considered best, he will always give his all and is indespensible in the england squad

Rafael Benitez claims Jamie Carragher is the best central defender in England.

Benitez has seized on Carragher's excellent performance at the heart of England's defence in midweek for inspiration in his team's battle with Everton for a Champions League place.

"Jamie is playing very well and has been all season. He is a very important player for us and I believe he is the best central defender in England at the moment," said Benitez.

"You will have to ask the England manager about his future in the team but as his club manager I believe he is a very good player with the strength and character every manager would want.

"He has all the right qualities you need for playing in central defence. He is improving all the time; he is learning tactical work and can play right across the back line at both full-back positions and both central defensive positions because he can use both feet equally as well."

Dont agree with that. Carragher will never be a regular for england because there are four better centre backs in this country. Terry, woodgate, campbell and ferdinand are all superior players to carragher, and are hardly flair players, there no doubt that carragher is a great player but there are a few ahead of him in the pecking order at international level as England are extremly strong in the centre back department.
