Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

A.B., I have not seen an Everton team willingly giving up the fight until the very last wistle this season. Moyes has done a fantastic job ion creating a team with such good work ethics, team spirit and endeavour especially without Rooney. Their team is devoid of a very skillful player but it is also devoid of prima donnas and they play exactly according to Moyes' game plans. The work ethic is like Chelsea, only minus the stars of Chelsea's.

If anything, it is the Liverpool players who are so guilty of sporadic commitment and effort from the likes of Garcia, Kewell etc and the lack of ability and judgement from Josemi, Diao etc. It is not realistic to assume that Everton will just fade away after having a seven point lead over Liverpool. Liverpool need to keep on consistently winning the remainder of the games and hope that Everton slip up. The key word is "hope" but on our end, the inconsistencies and the uncommitted nonsense has got to stop as well.

Yeah, peewee-man. I am as passionate as the red half scouser, although I am not one myself.

I fell in love with Liverpool in 1975 watching the efforts of Keegan, Tosh, Hughes, Callaghan, Clemence etc when I followed my dad to England when he was doing his post-grad studies. We stayed at a town some 20 miles from Norwich and my schoolmates just can't understand why I don't support Norwich City.

The epitomy of passion was Graeme Souness who bites into every tackle, never-say-die yet possess such vision and skill to command the midfield with such towering presence and influence. What a player, what a captain!

These days, our players should look at manure if they ever need to understand commitment - these guys have put in a fantastic run despite being less endowed with talents than Arsenal and Chelsea. We have almost similar talents, just failing on the commitment and passion part with some players clearly not showing enough effort most of the time.

I still believe in Rafa and that he will take us forward eventually. I do concur with peewee that some of his decisions have been pretty strange but some of the players have been guilty of not even trying enough.

azriah is right, if we dont get behind rafa and dont give him our backing after only just over half a season in charge then we shouldnt really call ourselves supporters, yes he had instant success with valencia and we were kinda in bouyous mood he could repeat that with us, however hector raul cuper left him a very good foundation to buold upon, houllier has really left him nothing, it would be interesting if rafa had taken on after the 01/02 season and made the signings for the 02/03 season which in truth i believe was the year if any for us to be champions, chelsea have now become a serious contender and the likes of middlesborough and bolton can stake a claim for the european spots, considering our injury hit season to be in last 16 champs lge, to even be in the reckoning of a champs lge spot and being in a carling cup final against chelsea is great, other teams have injury problems yes but the strength in depth we have is embarassing and dnt have that many resources, this season has been a learning curve for us, rafa has been working on away tacticts and building on a zonal marking method, lets get behind rafa, give the team lots of encouragement, anfield seems to get quieter and quieter these days, theres always that lull in atmosphere which doesnt help the team whatsoever, remember the olympiakos game where i think the crowd played a huge factor in our great comeback,  lets get behind rafa and the boys and give them all the support they need

lets get a bit of realism here.

everton deserve to be 4th. it's not about being attractive to watch, it's about playing to your strenghts and that is what everton do. i would rather watch paint dry than watch everton play week in week out but you have to give david moyes credit for the team spirit he has installed there this season.

if you look at everton, they don't score many goals (28 in total i think) but they also don't concede many either. we concede far too many stupid goals. i've lost count of the number of games everton have won 1-0 this season. if you don't concede you can't get beat it's as simple as that. attacking wins you friends. defending, as chelsea have shown, wins you titles.

everton will drop points over the coming weeks but so will we. by the time we play them it'll be a proverbial "six pointer", the likes of which haven't been played between the two clubs for years. it could come down to us having to rely on the scum to beat them on the last day of the season for us to get fourth.

imagine that. cheering for manure. :(  :D

I was talkin to me mum today and I said you reckon we will get 4th, she said no 3rd  .
Arsenal are going to miss Cambell, and if manure got 4 past em we can beat them again :;):
As long as they beat everton tho, 3rd or 4th will do me fine  :)
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

everton deserve to be 4th st mike of square pants?
i have to disagree. everton may have done well but they are just appallingly bad to watch. we have played some sweet football. i think whoever gets mroe poitns than 5th at the end of the season deserves fourth, and thats gonna be us, or i'll eat someones cat

After Everton,Man Utd and Chelsea, we have conceeded the least amount of the goals, however we conceed one stupid goal that changes the outcome of the game.

So they deserve to be 4th? Did Newcastle deserve to be 4th last season? Possibly, did we deserve to beat Chelsea? Did we deserve to have 13 points more now than we have due too bad officiating, probably but deserving means nothing at the end of the season.

Let's say that from the next three games we get 7 out of 9 points and they collect 3 or 4 points out of 9 that will cut the lead to a maximum of 4 points and 10 games left to play.

The point I am trying to get across is that Everton will bottle it. Newcastle did and I strongly believe that they will too.

I even think theres a possibility to finish 3rd if Arsenal continue to slip and we get on a good solid run. Time will tell

I reckon both teams will slip up on the run in. We must beat them at home theres no doubt. I fear defeat in the derby will cost us 4th. Whilst they have difficult games to come, so do we. Lets be honest, they have been more consistent until now, hence their superior position. We can close the gap and indeed should never have let it happen. In terms of quality we have the edge but they are more resilient than us. I was confident a month back, but I fear we are leaving it very late. The closer to line we get our chances are slipping away. We must close that gap urgently as Everton have something to hang onto and will fight to the death.

Rafael Benitez today insisted Liverpool will win the race for the final Champions League place and declared: "We're better than Everton."
The Reds remain seven points behind Everton following their fortunate victory over Norwich in midweek, but Benitez is remaining steadfast in the belief that his team will eventually overtake the Toffees.

And such is his confidence in his players, he hasn't even looked at the remaining fixtures for the other teams competing for that coveted fourth place.

"Sure, I think we are better than Everton. In my opinion we have a better team and better players," he said.

"But they are having a very good season and they are working very hard and winning lots of games because they have a great team spirit. But I still think we are a better team.

"People ask me if I've studied the schedules of other teams, but I haven't. I'm only intersted in my team and what we have to do.

"I didn't see the Everton game in midweek and haven't watched it since. I saw the score at the end of the game and that was it. I said to myself 'okay, it's seven points again'. What they or any other team does isn't of interest to me really.

"We know what we need to do and that is to reduce the gap. Even if we come to the final month of the season and there is a gap to close then we will fight to do it. I can promise you we will fight to the end.

"Everton have won a lot of games 1-0 this season but I am sure they will lose more games before the end. When they do we have to take advantage. That's what I mean about it being up to us. If we play well and win games then I am confident we will get fourth place. I've never changed my opinion on that."
