Big gulf between man utd and liverpool - We need to do something about it!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Manchester United 453 PLD   961 PTS
Arsenal              452 PLD   825 PTS
Liverpool      453 PLD   765 PTS

Since the Premier League began in the 1992-93 season through until the present day, Manchester United have amassed a massive 196 points difference between themselves and Liverpool. This gulf needs to be stopped. The reason why Fergie's men have achieved such a gap is owing to the fact that, instead of drawing against the likes of Everton and rueing plenty of chances like we did yesterday, they capatalise on their opportunities.
"People Say football is a matter of life and death" , " I believe it is much more important than that", Bill Shankly.

Arsene Wenger has bought guys like Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry. He changed everything at Arsenal F.C. Turning a boring club with a defensive outlook into an exciting attacking team with a Continential style and flair.

Sir Alex Ferguson bought Peter Schmichel, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Tim Howard, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, and developed young talent like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham. He applies the philosophies of Shankley and Paisley to Manchester United F.C. and he wins title after title.

Gerrard Houllier has bought Biscan, Smicer, Diao, Diouf, Traore...etc. The best players we have are all homegrown talent: Owen, Gerrard, Murphy, Carragher.

We missed out on Damien Duff, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge, John Terry, etc. Because we didn't act quickly enough and put our trust in the donkeys that Houllier bought.

That's why we are so far behind.

I'm more concerned about the current "gulf" than an accumulated difference. We are 19 points behind the mancs and I don't believe their first XI is that much better than ours

Dudek/Kirkland vs Howard
Hyypia vs Ferdinand
Henchoz vs Silvestre
Carragher vs O'Shea
Finnan vs Neville
Hamann vs Keane
Gerrard vs Scholes
Kewell vs Giggs
Diouf vs Ronaldo
Owen vs Van Nistelrooy
Baros vs Saha

Owzat on paper your right'  I think if you take the current liverpool squad and play them under Wenger or Ferguson they'd be acheiving  much more in the way of results.  Whats the common denominator?  Why are they underacheiving?

Is it luck?
Is it bad coaching?
Is it the fans not supporting the team?
Is it confidence?
Is it the rotation system?
Is it tactics?
Is it style of play?

Gerrard Houllier set his own standards.  He declared a 5 year plan and to be fair he had an exceptional year two seasons ago.  But he has failed to live up to his own standard.  He has blamed all the above at one point or another but he's yet to hold his hand up.
I would also ask everyone to stop blaming the players put the fault were it belongs!

Agree with everything u said al. I thought berger was a waste of space.
He leaves us goes to portsmouth and is having his best season ever.
I believe if we had Ronaldon, zidane, figo, totti and raul
We would be still struggling to keep up with Man utd and Arsenal.
Reason for this is houlier
He seems to bring the worst out in players.

I would not have got rid of Berger. On form he is brilliant and also can fill in in several positions. He can score some vital goals, takes a decent free kick and is left footed, something we don't have an excess of quality in

We could still get Okocha, he says he is thinking of moving at the end of his contract (in June)

Would he join us though? He may be tempted to go to either Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea. The guarantee of UEFA Champion's League football may be too great to resist.

Arsenal and manu may not need him, at Chelski he might not get a look in. The best players don't always end up at the top three clubs, we got Kewell didn't we? :D

We are so far behind United and Arsenal because we have a clown of a manager who keeps bleating on about winning those three trophies a few years ago. A quick glance at the table shows that we are closer to Leeds United, in points terms, than we are to Arsenal.

Anfield needs a huge shake up at the end of the season. We need greater ambition from those who are running the club. Finishing in fourth position will be hailed as a great success by Houllier and his chum Parry. But what sort of success is that if we end up trailing this year's champions by say 30 points?

The gulf in class and performaces between us and the top three is massive.

I understand he's 30 though, not that age would be a massive problem. I'd still prefer us to be signing slightly younger players so we can get a lot out of them
