Very good topic, TheAce.

It is getting pretty ridiculous. And when we do sign someone, we get half a dozen people slapping themselves on the back, overlooking the fact that they bandied around another 20 names alongside the one that they actually got right.

I can't see this place working if rumourmongering gets moderated out, as there definitely is a place for speculation, but I definitely agree with something needing to be done about people flying off the handle when someone says "Gerrard's going" or "Baros spoke to some Spaniard about the nightlife in Barcelona". It's way out of hand at the moment, and it's making this forum a bit of a mess to be honest.

The Ace. I agree with you but I think you don't have to take it too seriously as some of the fans here got all excited when they hear something and may just want to share it to others right away without thinking too much about its credibility. I think most of their intention was good and just ligthen up. I mean if it doesn't have a source, you can just skip it and I don't think its too big a problem. My main concern here is still people starting a new thread on same topic without going through the list first. Otherwise, i think this forum is very good and fun to read.:)

I'd like to point out in my own defence that I was not having a go about the rumour mongering, it's just that I'm interested to know where some of this stuff comes from and why, before we all attack a player or the club, do we not just check out where the rumour came from?
I do it myself when I get excited. When someone says we're gonna sign Ayala or lose Gerrard, I always post, but I'm trying to understand why we all do this with unsubstantiated rumours and not check some sort of reliable news source for the facts. I'm not being harsh on anyone, I'm just trying to understand.

I also agree with Akumaface, But multiple threading has gotten better.

Can see what your saying
But it is good to have a bit of Fantasy sometimes ( oooh er )

Like others have said - that's what good about this forum - there is a lot of bulls*it and also a few attention seekers - but there's also many good posts as well.
Sometimes - it's the only thing that keeps me sane after watching the boys play dreadful over the weekend.
Most people (apart from me old man) really can't understand how watching a game of football for 90 mins can then spoil the rest of my weekend by putting me on a downer.
Then I get on Forum and realise that there are hundreds probably thousands like me - somehow makes you feel a little bit more sane.

Also - on a final note about the "Ridiculous Rumour Mill" - if you look closely - you tend to see a bit of a pattern forming with who starts them

The Ace1983 wrote:Terry Pratchett once wrote "rumour can circle the world, before the truth has got it's boots on" and it has never held greater meaning than now. Since the appointment of Benitez I heard everything from:

1. We'd get Ayala for free
2. We'd also get Baraja, Aimar, Davids, Mexes and a lot more
3. Steve Morgan would hand over £70m for Rafa to spend in January.

to the rediculous:

1. A Venezualan Multi Billionaire was going to buy the Reds
2. Zidane and Figo were going to be used in the Owen transfer
3. We lodged a £25m bid for Rooney

None of these have come true, but what I find more worrying is that these stories seem to have no sources whatsoever. This thing about Gerrard's £40m transfer to Real is a prime example. There is no evidence and barely any heresay even from the tabloids. When one of these appears on this site or any other, we all get riled up, start slagging off an individual who has given so much to the club, and then hurl accusations all over the place. Why do we do this? Would it not be better and more productive to talk about the real issues surrounding the club.

We even talk about unsubstanciated stories involving other clubs, like Roman Abramovic's deportation which was not reported in any of the reliable media sources. It doesn't concern us, even if it is true, but no-one else seemed to know about it. Not even Chelski fans.

Would this site not be far better, if we debated REAL stories and threads that concern Liverpool football club's REAL issues?

I would like to see us discuss relevant issues such as our struggle for fourth place, our effort to sign realistic, quality players, decisions on and off the field. And, I would be even more interested to find out what your opinions are on the relevant issues.

Heck, I'd like to hear what you have to say about this. But when a friend of a friend of a friend meets some guy in the pub and tells you that Ronaldinho will be joining in the off season, why not try and find a justifiable source. That's all I ask.

Viva la Rafa-lution

what about darren huckerby to anfield? i nearly fell off my chair when i heard that. :D

The Ace, but many had posted their source like the one I remember about some driver friends overheard a conversation about Anelka is coming to Anfield. THey probably thought it was reliable enough. YOu just didn't believe him haha.:D  :p
