Couldnt have put it better myself

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Reading Rafa's comments leads me to believe that many on here are missing the point. What he's saying is that regardless of the result he couldn't afford to risk any more of our first-team squad. I honestly think that even if he could play the tie again, he would play the same team. Overall, given the financial implications I agree with him. Unfortunately it looks like the F.A. Cup is going to go the same way as the other one ( I can never remember the name of it at the moment ) and we'll be partially to blame I think. Not good but thats life.

Exactly. And anyway ,even if we had WON the bloody trophy,it wouldve been "yeah ,very good, but its still not the league" and he might even have ben compared to Gerard Houllier  . Im far more wrecked about losing home and away to the scum.

Hi Mike, i'm wrecked about a few things mate not least travelling (twice) to Burnley and watching the reserve side get well beaten by a decent and well organised burnley side.

Reagrding your comments about what we would say if we won it are not in my opinion valid. i don't remember saying anything like that when we won the FA Cup in 2001.

To treat the worlds most famous Cup competition with nonchalence may just be the price one has to pay for future glories but it still hurts  ???

agree Ian, the loss to Burnley hurt almost as much as the manure defeat, largely beacuse of the opposition and the possibilty of being in the 5th round with a 4th round tie againt Bournemouth, but also the manner of the defeat.

Quite true Scott. As a fan its not the defeat but the nature of that defeat. people point to only losing 1-0 whilst conveniently forgetting Dudek was probably our best player ! (admitteadly not difficult On Tuesday). Burnely didn't just win, they domainted the game and never looked like conceding.

But what REALLY hurts is seeing our "future" up and coming players and realising that with the exception of maybe Whitbread there isn't a great deal there in terms of quality ???

As I said in my previous post on here, boycotting the FA Cup may have to be the price paid for progress in the CL and Title aspirations but please don't tell me it doesn;t embarrasss fans when we succumb to teh 10th palced club in Division 1 ???

It is emberassing but that's football and that's the "romance of the FA Cup" where anybody can beat anybody.

Badmao ,the fact that we lost by only an own goal should not be used as a consolation . At no point in the game did it look like we might actually win it .

Not using the score as a consolation but just putting things in perspective(sp), Rafa played a young team a we lost. Noboby wants to get knocked out the cup but of bigger importance for the growth of this squad over the next couple of seasons is securing 4th spot or higher and another year of big money games against Europes finest.
