Don't blame the manager

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Nobody should be pointing their finger at Benitez after today's loss.  First and foremost our young players showed that they can play against full strength sides such as Tottenham and Middlesborough in the Carling Cup therefore Benitez wanted to play the youngsters as he put his trust in them, we all did.

Had he not had played the youngsters and lost, some would had said that we should had played them. Had we won with them nobody would be complaining about it. It's hard to satisify some, the fact of the matter is that the players underperformed. They were brilliant against top sides such as Tottenham,Boro,etc... but they blew it tonight, they took it for granted and now the club, the manager, the players and us the fans have gotten a smack in the face which I hope knocks some good sense into us.

The only way Benitez is blameless is if he did not select the first 11 or squad that travelled to Burnley. If he had selected our best side, or closer to it I think its likely we would at least still be in the FA Cup right now. He got it very very wrong this evening and cannot and should not be shielded for his major role in the whole shambolic mess at Burnley.

Morientes must be thinking if he made the right choice after watching that display

He underestimated the cup, Burnley and the passion of the competition

He has to shoulder a lot of the blame but dont confuse this with anti Benitez as he is still the man with the plan but he got it wrong tonight simple as

Ffs you would think that our players would be able to win this yes this was against a ****** poor side. We beat Tottenham and Boro but our players ****** this one over, I can't blame Rafa for a poor performance by the players.

I think Rafa is a good manager and right for Liverpool, please dont misunderstand me, however he should not be free from stick when he gets it horribly wrong. Tonight was such a night, as was the Everton match where he messed about and paid the ultimate price.

Benitez said that he was not going to take the fa cup as serious .... i say that he should go and read up the history of liverpool fc and take a look outside our ground and read a few names and think again.

You watch next season, Rafa won't make this mistake twice. We'll win it next year, you watch. Long may he guide our beloved club.

Probably not but it was Bournemouth next round

JBG talks sense as usual but it still hurts to go out in the 3rd round to Burnley

Yes CL and 4th is more important and deep down we know that but it still hurts and will for a while

Everybody can see in hindsight that it was a bad team selection for the game by Rafa. But thats what happens, Rafa picked the team he though could win the match and he didn't. The only reason so many young players were playing is because we don't exactly have a huge squad to pick from at the moment and for RAfa to keep our 1st team players fit for the league and champions league the youn players will have to play. Lets face it they've done alright for him up until tonight so ease off and don't be running off into hyperbole people.

was that good enough for you,in all the years of supporting liverpool i've not been so disappointed in a liverpool manager.why oh why don't these foreign manager's realise how much the F.A. cup means to us.to be beaten by burnley is just to much to take.it just reinforcese's my belief we should have appionted a british manager, was it or was it not one of the most limp performance's seen by a liverpool side in recent years. to under estimate your oponent is a sin that can't be forgivin, and to send out a side like that, just shows the distain these foreign managers class the F.A. cup with.
you can say what you like, but if benitez didn't learn by ferguson's mistake, he wants to take a good hard look at himself and really think in what direction he's taking this great club, look ,it's ok to be loyal to your manager, but mistakes like the one he made tonight are just unforgiveable!!!!  end of story!

you can't blame it on rafa, the kids wanted a chance after the performances they put out against spurs and boro.  they had a chance to make a mark from themselves, they just didn't take it.  FFS, what can the guy do, people always saying that we ain't producing no more good youth players and not giving them a chance and heres the gaffa giving them a chance unlike houllier and he kops all blame!
