The first 11. - Suprised?

Hmm... its a bit early for i told you so's as it still can go wrong, but Finnan, Henchoz and Carragher have all been restored to the team and its no suprise to me how much better this makes us. For me now its just down to Owen, Finnan and Carragher to regain match fitness over the next few games then we'll be pretty much back in business. For the first time last night, the (what i consider) Key players all played in the same side. Thats Owen, Kewell, Gerrard, Hamann, Hyypia, Finnan, Carragher and one of the keepers. Now i don't think it was a co-incidence that all these players played and even though its there first time as a complete unit we produce our best display of an awful season.

When Carragher plays left back we get his leadership and determination back, his excellent defensive capabilities and alot more passes out from the back to a red shirt as apose to to hoofs out of play or the opposition goalkeeper.

Finnan offers good defensive cover and positional play but offers excellent movement, intelligence, common sense, technical ability and width down the right which is something no-one else can do. On the ball he's got class and composure.

Henchoz, well, he'll throw any part of himself at anything... ask Arsenal :D he is a good alround defender aswell, he's also good on the ball.

With these players back hopefully now the morons can see exactly what we've been missing. Mind you.... missing players of this calibre isn't acceptable is it... i forgot :)

As good as the result and performance was yesterday,I am not prepared to believe that another corner has been turned and we are back.I say give it more time, with results and performances showing a dramatic up turn before you start banging the drum.Yesterdays team were the same 11 that totally capitulated in the 2nd half against Wolves.I'm not taking anything away from the Newcastle result,I was there and it was bloody great, but I like to keep my feet on the ground. One swallow does not make a summer, but one frog and a bag of veg makes a stu,I mean stew.

Stu you talk of players coming in and rightly so! but what about the cr#p that went out read the previous posts I've made and you'll find that I believe that by playing Biscan, Houlier was making a big mistake.  You can gloat if you wish but I promise you the minute that Bican comes into the team we will be in s##t once more.  Your time would be better spent telling your dad not to play him.

I agree that we have not turned the corner yet, it was a good result yesterday but the performance was just ok. Finnan looked really classy and Carragher was brilliant defensively. Still need to create more chances though and score more goals. Also, what was Dudek doing for their goal, it went straight through his hands!

I agree. Stevie G got it right after the game: 'Everyone knows we're a decent cup side.' yeah, but that's what we used to say about Spurs, cos they were never gonna win titles.

Thing that struck me was that the lads were really up for it, like they know it's their only realistic chance of silverware so they're gonna give it a crack. Maybe they know the league's long lost and although the CL spot is up for grabs, they can't quite raise themselves in the league. No question that if they played like that week in week out we'd be challenging for the title.

Hansen was purring over the back 4 last night, and it's basically what most of us have been saying for a while: play your best players in their preferred position. Oh, and don't play Biscan.

think owen's gotta get fit and start delivering now and we could see a mini revival, but for me this is far too late. There's something not right about a club with a 1st team as good as this who are 20 points off the top of the league in January. The way things are going at Old Trafford there could be some upheaveal there pretty soon and we need to be ready to capitalise on it.

Far too late it may be Ade but you can't argue that when Liverpol have key players playing especially defensively we are a difficult team to play agaisnt. Of all the top teams in the Prem , we have suffered the most injuries. Its ok saying we should have the squad to deal with it but Henry, Vierra and Pires from Arsenal or Keane, Scholes and Nistelroy from the Mancs would be as sorely missed as Owen, Gerrard and Hamann (Or/and Kewell) have been for us. I was at he games on Wednesady at Wolves and last night at Anfield and its obvious to see that LFC look a cpmpletely different team when the regular back 4 are present. I was pleased with the atmosphere last night and for once the fans played their part (apart from the idiots in the centenary who went to the time and effort to unfurl that banner ( if their unhappy with Houllier why not send him a  letter  If you don't know what i mean then you musn't have read any papers today.

Like i said though... Finnan, Carragher and Owen all seem short of match fitness. It shown in the match, one or two little incidents where they weren't as sharp as normal. When they are all match fit which should be the next game/game after then i am sure the performances will step up yet another level.

Owen and Kewell also look like they are lacking in confience slightly, again its something which can be taken as a positive as they are two of our best players and that won't last. We all know Owen hasn't been at his brilliant best recently so like i say, now all our best players are back there is every chance that the results, confidence and performances will  improve.

Hansen was purring over the back 4 last night, and it's basically what most of us have been saying for a while: play your best players in their preferred position. Oh, and don't play Biscan.

Yeah well done, its also only the SECOND TIME.... YES THE SECOND TIME!!! this season that back 4 has been available for selection. we've been missing Carragher for 80% of the season, Henchoz 70% and Finnan 55%.

As for Biscan, i agree he's not good enough, i wouldn't kid anyone by suggesting otherwise, i think there is potential there as a footballer, but not a centre half and i doubt he's got it in him mentally to make it at LFC. But no team in the premiership is prepeared for three injuries to the back 4 apart from Chelsea and thats only because they have the finanicial clout. So i'm hopefull this is the end of his spell in the first team.

I think it was Henchoz playing centre-back that made the biggest difference. We can't know for sure whether it was playing Henchoz at centre-back or having that entire back four available which made the difference. Time will tell, we won't know until the back four has played a reasonable number of games as a unit. Saying that, any back four picked consistently should be more reliable than the consistently changing back four Houllier has put out

We can tell because you clearly saw how well Finnan and Carragher played. How you can suggest the whole team imrpoved just Because Henchoz was moved to the middle is beyond me. Finnan and Jamie are equally if not more important individuals than Stephane.

Its as simple as that... they added EXACTLY what we've been missing. Finnan was brilliant down the right and imo was a very close contender for MoM along with Gerrard and Henchoz. Carra offered solidarity and bottle down the left and played a part in the second goal.

Finnan is hugely underated. I genuinely believe he can be at least as good a player as Babbel was which to be honest is pretty damn good.

Stu I agree with your assessment of the performance of Finnan and Carragher, but I don't think Finnan has ever been under-rated.He has always put in good performances in the red shirt. That was one of the positive points to come from Saturday, our full-backs were allowed to continue to play up the field instead of the brakes being put on once we were a goal up in the 2nd half.

I read somewhere (maybe even in this topic) that one of you guy's think Finnan hasn't done anything to impress, well that's nut's if you ask me! Finnan is a tryer like Carragher, Gerrard, Henchoz and hyypia to name a few of our player's who are not just there to get paid. I have said all along that this is a strongest back four and you can see for yourselve's that it is. Im glad to see Biscan not playing even though the guy give it a good shot, he just is not steady enough and i still believe that why Hyypia dropped in form, he new the certainty of Biscan making mistake's and it made him uncomfortable. Anyway i think we showed good form and fighting spirit against Newcastle but im not getting my hopes up and near should you. Oh and im also happy that Cheyrou is making an ***** out of me but to be fair to me he still lack's that extra bit of flair...if he keep's playing the way he is he will get it though, the fan's were even chanting his name  ???

And with that Bruno will become a better player through gaining confidence.

And  Kop-1982... that was big al that said that :)

He knows his football apparently so Finnan must be replaced by Otsemobor.  ???
