Does anyone want Diao ?

Maybe if we throw in Josemi we might be able to sell both of them as a package.

Most of our losses came with Josemi in the side and the wins came with Finnan in the side. This is not a gross overstatement as Josemi has directly or indirectly gave away a goal in matches that feature him.

cause everyone still had high hopes for Kirkland
still had him touted as the future England goalkeeper

I must admit - I've been a bit disappointed with him when he had his short run in the side before he got injured AGAIN
Dudek's doing ok at the moment - so don't think Goalkeeper is the priority position for Rafa in January - perhaps it will be reviewed again at the end of the season - lets hope not before that - cause it will mean somebody is dropping clangers again

cos we had no money
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

I think the biggest problem at the moment is not knowing exactly how much money we have available to spend.

Quality players will inevitably cost a lot of money and so we are lucky that we have a manager with brilliant knowledge and contacts with regards to the Spanish Transfer Market as we can bring in decent players that other clubs are relatively unaware of at good prices.

We could probably stretch the transfer kitty to enable Raffa to spend anything up to £20 million on new players but then you run the risk of being in more debt if we don't produce the goods.

Leeds thought that spending all that money on building a really good team would pay off and the financial rewards of a good run in the Champions League and a high finish in the Premiership would enable them to pay off their debts.

If the recent investment proposals had come to any kind of fruition then perhaps we would have a considerable amount of cash immediately available but until such point I feel that Raffa is doing the right thing and strengthening for the short term and building on what we have using currently limited financial resouces as best as possible.

Lyon are believed to have entered the transfer chase for Real Madrid's Fernando Morientes.

The French champions are keen to bring the former Monaco loanee back to Ligue 1 although Newcastle United continue to be credited with an interest despite denials from Graeme Souness.

Although a defender is surely the priority for the Magpies boss, officials from Tyneside are reported to have travelled to Madrid on Thursday to discuss a deal.

Liverpool remain in the frame, and quotes from the player continue to intimate that Anfield is his preferred destination, but sources in France claim Lyon would represent an attractive option for the Spaniard.

It is rumoured Lyon are willing to offer €1 million more than any other bid for Morientes, which would be music to Real Madrid's ears as they try to spark an auction for his signature. The fee could even rise to as much as €15 million (£10.6 million).

Liverpool are said to have been bidding at around the €8 million (£5.66 million) mark.

L'OL coach Paul Le Guen is in no rush to reinforce his squad in January and would be prepared to wait until the summer before finalising any major arrival.

This would presumably not suit 'El Moro', who is disenchanted with life at Real, and is desperate to move on.

Monaco seem to be dropping out of the race to sign the top scorer in last term's UEFA Champions League due to the elevated asking price on his head.

The 28-year-old will be eager for more developments when the transfer window opens

So what if Lyon are prepared to offer 1million euros more than anyone else, if Morientes doesnt want to go there then he wont , he doesnt have too or even speak to them.

he`s even older than sami.   ???
once he signs i`ll back him but cant figure this one out.
the one thing our squad isn`t short of is `squad` players.
houllier used to collect them like stamps.
i`d rather go for quality or dont bother.
then again benitez knows what he is doing.

I heard we will get him on a free transfer, so what do we have to lose? What happens when Carragher and Hyypia gets injured who is going to replace them?

Then we got Traore to cover for them if they get injured, but I would like to see youngers like David Raven or Zak Whitbread to play in the Premier League to get some experience for the future.

If Rafa feel that Raven or Whitbread are not ready to play for Reds in Premier League, so why they can't send them to play for another Premier League club like Norwich on loan for the rest of the season?

I think Hyypia still has about 2 years left in him but we need to prepare to bring in the next CB and we should do it slowly. Hope Whitbread and Raven would have a chance there. I think Traore is a good squad player to have but he can only be our temporary solution if either Hyppia or Carra is hurt. I'm sure the new guy Rafa brought in has better awareness and overall skill than Traore has.

WHAT about this guy?

Agent confirms Charlton interest for Valencia's Corradi
By Ian Ferris - January 6, 2005

Charlton are interested in signing Valencia striker Bernardo Corradi, according to the player's agent.

Moreno Roggi also revealed several other English clubs are keen on the 28-year-old Italy international.

Roggi told Sky Sports: "It's true, Charlton are interested. But I am having my holidays and until I'm back in Italy, me and the player too, we will consider nothing.

"But I can tell you that Charlton are not the only team interested in Corradi. There are other English sides."

I dont think Valencia will do any business with us, the reason they let Pellegrino come is because well he ran out of contract.
