A vastly experienced defender on a free transfer, who's worked with and been successful with our manager

therefore don't see the problem with signing him, cant see him demanding mega wages and if Henchoz goes it won't be a problem, I'll welcome him!

plus it doesnt mean Rafa isnt going to make other signings just because he's signing him first

Good thing with this Pelligrino is he knows Rafas mentality and methods probably better then the players we have now, as he played for him for 2 years. This in its self is a plus for the whole squad!
Also if Rafa has had him as a player before and is willing to sign him again shows he has alot of faith in this player. I for one see no need not to distrust his player choice yet!

Rafa seems to like rotations (just look at how many times diao has played!) another experienced centreback will be good should cara or sami get buggered with fatigue or god forbid injured.

Yeah. The only dept that he has not roate much is the defence. Probably, he does not have the luxury to do so. Hyppia was booked again in the match against Norwich. There will be time that he's not able to play. But, I do hope he's never got injured. Otherwise, it will be more painful. It's good to have an experience player. Probably a player / coach.....

He's brought in for cover, in case Carra or Hyppia drop in form, get injured or suspended.

Sol Campbell getting a red card against the Manc scum cost Arsenal the title season before last. You need cover in the centre, and this guys gives it in the short term.

Benitez has his eye on a big name central defender like Ayala and is prepared to wait to get the right man, rather than spend a lot of money now on getting someone else.
