Boro had almost a full house against Norwich (34,000+).

By my calaculations Boro have had around 31,000 on average per home league match this season according to this:

A full house for them is just under 35,000.

Its true that Boro's attendances dropped off a bit in recent years since the days of Ravenelli, Juninho and Emerson when they almost always got 35,000, but I keep a keen eye on their fixtures as I have family up there and while they haven't got the crowds they got in 1997, they definitely have got 30,000+ for most of their home games this season.

Strange, as 6 or 7 years ago they got bigger crowds when they were relegation fodder.  ???

i live in boro jbg and worked there as a steward a couple of years ago. it has always been a mystery as to why boro get such poor attendances a lot of the time. i think the main reason is lack of finance due to high unemployment in the local area. the roads around the ground are also awful with there being no bus service running to within a mile of the ground.

the biggest mystery was when they got 15,000 for their first carling cup game. ok they were only playing coventry but they were defending holders. i think with them being in europe now, the majority of fans just tend to pick and choose the games they attend.

It is strange Michael. I have always followed Boro closely given my family connection there, and for a while in the late 1990s, they were getting great crowds, especially in the first 2 or 3 years when Bryan Robson was manager.

I think a lot of it was novelty value in that long suffering fans who previously were used to watching Bernie Slaven, Jamie Pollock, Ian Baird and Curtis Flemming were suddenly seeing the South American Player of the Year (Juninho), Branco, and Ravenelli playing for them. They increased the capacity of the Riverside to 35,000 such was the demand for tickets, but once Robson REALLY started to struggle and Terry Venables was brought in, crowds began to dwindle and despite their very good current team, still haven't fully recovered.
