Depends on the deal
If he (Fowler) comes on loan - for the right money
why not give it a shout - I think his performances recently for City show he can still play in the Premier League & he would definitely have more of an appetite for the game back where he started - if it doesn't work out by the end of the season - let him go / retire
don't know why everyone is so against the idea
it's not as if we've got money to have the pick of Europes most promising
so go for a quick fix - and look long term for other players

It can not be allowed to happen, full stop.

We are a team looking to move forward, and build not live on past memories, no matter how wonderful those memories where.

I don't think we have replaced Fowler since he has left, we don't have a preditor in the box, yeah ok Mellor isn't doing a bad job but imo he's no more than a bench player.

Why Paul?

I am not having a go, far from it, its just that I really think that people should be giving Neil a lot more credit for what he has done.

Unfortunatly, there's a fashion these days to think every great striker needs to be like just like Thierry Henry but I think Mellor is of a different mould.

He just scores goals, a priceless commodity. And no matter how fast you are, how skillful you are or how good in the air a striker is, at the end of the season that is what it boils down to. Goals scored. That's all he can do for us and he's doing it well at the moment.

The one against Olympiakos was a great striker's goal, with all the chaos in the 6 yard box, when it was bouncing around everywhere, what did he do ? Ee just stood still, waited for it to drop, and totally smashed it into the back of the net, no messing around. Two good one on ones against boro, a long shot against Arsenal and a great finish against Newcastle, as a striker the kid has everything you need, he knows where the goal is and how to get the ball into the back of it.

I think he's definately one to keep hold of.

I used to think Mellor was awful but his form of late has been good but I don't think he is 'world class' and we need world class players to get back where we belong, like I say Mellor is a good player but he the sort of player who should be on the bench to give us options or incase one of the other strikers is injured.

But robbie fowler isnt world class ne more?  sure he may have been in his prime but not ne more.  I think while its a romantic thort to have robbie back in the red jersey n banging in the goals for fun its not very likely.  If we sign only 1 striker in january id rather it not be robbie although if we get him on loan AS WELL AS another striker like Anelka or morientes then id be ok with that

Well let me help you out:

LFC have very limited transfer funds, but probably need to make 3 or 4 signings in the window.

The £3.5m bid for Morientes (who, let's not forget, is cup-tied) may well have been a good indicator of how little we have to spend, and if we get involved in a bidding war to land the player, the other 2 or 3 signings will have to be pretty bargainiferous.

Leon talks about us needing to be a team moving forward, but for me this season still needs salvaging, so there's no harm in taking a quick glance back to find our feet. For the cost of Robbie's weekly wages through to the end of the season, the buzz he'd give the club both on and off the field would be worth the investment alone. And the great thing is that Robbie is still so much better than that. I can genuinely see him and Baros, or him and Mellor doing some sterling work up front.

People just need to get into their heads the fact that he's not the player he once was. But I tell you what, the player that he is now is very, very useful, and very, very dangerous in and around the box. We haven't got £20m to splash around, and options for up front that a) aren't out of our price range, b) aren't cup tied for CL and c) are tried and tested in both the Prem and Europe are few and far between.

Moan all you want about not wanting him to disappoint the fans. I'd rather we chanced our arm on him and saw for ourselves what he's capable of than speculate on how it might go wrong, and then beat ourselves up about NOT making the deal when the summer rolls around.

I'd be interested to see which two strikers people expect to sign if we have only got something like £7m to spend on TWO strikers.

Fowler was my favourite player when he was here but it would be a mistake to bring him back.  Injuries have taken their toll and he is not close to being the player he once was.

He isn't what he used to be. During than, even the Big Dane was afraid to face Fowler.
But what Fowler has left, his experience and the form he is showing, definitely proves he has the cut for LFC. This all not including his passion for LFC. Add that, you have a splendid player.
It doesn't even ****** me one bit that he is available on loan to us. Taking him on loan will never be a step back.

I tell you what, the more I've seen of him this season - particularly the last month - the more I'm thinking that bringing him in on loan would be a genius move. The amount of ball we've been getting in the box in recent weeks...

I tell you, the guy is far from done. And I make no apologies whatsoever for labouring the point. :p
