Viva la rafa - A message from rafa himself

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Sun Dec 26, 2004 3:22 am

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has taken time out from preparing his side for the busy festive programme to write a Christmas message to Reds' fans all over the world.
Dear Liverpool supporters,

On behalf of the players and staff of Liverpool Football Club I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Playing football over the holiday period is going to be an unusual experience for me, but it's one I'm looking forward to because there are lots of games and lots of points at stake in a short period of time.

We have two games in three days over Christmas and then another two games in three days over New Year. The players know this is an important period of the season because with so many points to play for things can change very quickly in the league table. As ever though, we will be taking things one game at a time and at the moment our focus is on the game at West Brom on Boxing Day.

I think we have improved as the first half of the season has gone on and I know the supporters are pleased with the football we are playing. I am sure, as I have said before, that the level of the team will get higher over the second half of the season and I remain confident we will finish in the top four.

We are still in all four competitions and so we have a lot to look forward to as we go into the New Year.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank you all for the support and encouragement you have given me since I came to the club last summer and I can promise you we are all working as hard as we can to give you a team and a squad to be proud of.

I'm not going to make any predictions but I've said many times that I didn't come to this country to learn English. I came here to be successful with this club and that's what we're all working towards. We'll need some time, but these players have confidence in themselves and I have confidence in them. The players have a great mentality, they all want to win trophies and I am confident we are going into a new year with many reasons to be positive about the future.

Have a great Christmas and best wishes for a fantastic 2005.

Rafael Benitez

Rafa is earning the respect Houllier got off me with every passing week.

I hope he lives upto my expectations.

I think Houllier, after the heart surgery got to emotionally involved. Hopefully Rafa won't do the same.

Fair assessment Stu. You know my feelings on Houllier but you summed up where the demise started and what emotion and in some way desperation to succeed can do to a manager.......
