Anelka vs morientes - Who would you want?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Am not sure who I would prefer, they both bring different things to the table anelka with his pace and morientes being more of a fox in the box either way id be happy to be honest only problem i have with morientes is his age 29 and anelka is younger and will cost around the same by the sound of it plus he can play in the champions league. But then again there is the ego either way I back who ever Rafa goes for.

yet another dumb comment, what makes people even think we can afford two strikers in beyonf me, but once again I'll follow Benitez on blind faith alone.

Morientes is definetely a better player, but he is cuptied and almost 29. He is not going to be around forever. If we can get Moro cheap then good, if we have to cash out then possibly Anelka is the better option.

Morientes may be 29 but he is a brilliant player. This guy will come in and make an immediate impact. Anelka may be younger but hes not as good as Morientes and will be more expensive. City will not let him go cheap. If we can take him from Madrid for 6 million I reckon its good business because he is quality.

I think Morentes sneaks it for me, although the obvious disadvantages are that he's cup tied and not exactly young.

However, I think Cisse will return to full fitness (nowadays players often make total recovery from bad leg breaks) and then we'd be left in a situation where we'd have two very similar players in Anelka and Cisse.

Morentes would give us more options, and he's a creative forward as well, capable of setting up goals as well as score them.

Agree with all that. He's still only 28 and the talk is we can get him for 5 million which is good business for an out and out striker who is proven at the highest level.

City are going to expect more than that for Anelka who is unreliable, tempermental and disloyal in my view.

the fact that he's cup tied for CL doesn't bother me too much in the short term. we're playing in a few cups and the league aswell. having 2 quality strikers in baros and morientes gives us more potential for resting one or the other without weakening the team at all. when Cisse is back next season and we're in the CL with him, Baros and Morientes its gonna be a scary thought for anyone. especially as they all play a different style and can pose so many questions of any defence.

i'm speaking like we've got the guy already but i've got a really strong feeling he's coming.

Anelka by a country mile. We've all seen what he can do and when he played for Liverpool he simply oozed class. His skill, pace, link up play and vision where incredible to watch. He was at a similar level to Owen but was very different.

JBG, i totally disagree that Anelka is like Cisse, to me Cisse is more of an out an out goalscorer, Anelka is more of a link man.

He also has great composure and experience for his age.

He was brilliant for us at times and i'd snatch city's hand off for him.

You make a very good point Stu however it is more likely that we will sign Morientes than Anelka because Benitez has been interested in him since this summer and he knows what Morientes can do and how he could help us up front.
