City will talk - What price anelka

Anelka was not match fit when he came to us from PSG but his performances against Newcastle and Everton that season were absolutely top drawer.

I distinctly remember Alan Hansen describing his performance against Newcastle as being the best performance by a centre forward in the Premiership that season.

Just to clarify if anyone is interested, I didn't mean tat Annelka coming was a done deal. My point was merely that by now, the deal for whoever we ARE getting will be done. For my part, if it was Annelka I would have no complaints at all.

I tell you what, when Anelka came in on loan, I taped The Premiership while I was out on Saturday night. When I played it, I was sure that the video was playing it at the wrong speed - his pace was absolutely frightening. Even though he hadn't played much football prior to his arrival at Anfield, he instantly brought something to the team - the point's been made about the number of assists he made during his time with us, and it's a very valid one.

No question about it, he's a top, top player on his day. His work rate tracking back to midfield isn't the best, but give Benitez 6 months with him and I'm sure he can develop no end. For me he's like Cisse but with far better touch and more of an eye for the loose balls in the box.

thats the thing, Ivor - Cisse could develop into an Anelka type player but with his horrific injury we may never know. :(

I can think of far worse forward combinations than the equivalent of two Anelkas.

I'm sure most people would take defoe over Anelka any day of the week, but unfortunately if we wanted him then we would have to come up with some sertious cash, possibly 15 million or more where as Anelka is about half that. Right now we are just trying to mend the cracks in our boat. Anelka is the right fit for the job, though after watching defoe score against us on the opening day he looks like the goal poacher we need.  Just imagine having someone that could have finished those chances we had against portsmouth.

yeh if word was out Defoe was available then their would be many clubs interested and he would ocst an arm and a leg, perhaps some clubs are apprehensive to sign Anelka cos of his reputtion, but I think Rafa could keep him in check and he has the talent to be a great acquisition for us.

I'd prefer anelka actually...my only problem with him is his attitude..wouldnt want him to disrupt our team morale..thats the last thing we need..we have enough problems with gerrard already!!

Anelka is much better with the ball at his feet than Baros. He can hold the ball up well, which is something Rafa needs when he's playing 1 striker to give midfielders time to support the counter attack. And he can do the unexpected.

Baros is most dangerous when he's around the penalty box or running at players in there.

I think Anelka will be a good addition and play well with Baros, though I'm sure rafa wants Morientes as his first pick.
