At the end of the day someone is going to take over so it may as well be someone we has a lot of money and that counts out Morgan.

..putting the Stadium off is not really an option.. as major regeneration programmes in the City are reliant in part, on the current stadium providing development opportunites etc,  for an enormous programme. LFC have to act to keep-up with the big players in the Premiership.. but also to satisfy local economic/social need... tied in to programme of regeneration...

Stadium has to come first as it is a long term investment.

Diverting extra money away from the stadium and spending it on players could be very risky.

Especially if GH was still in charge, could you imagine getting him £40m, that  would be as cleaver as letting Stevie Wonder decorate your house  :p

Good debate this one !
There is a fine line between spending wisely and wasting the money.
Yes, we need the revenue from a bigger Stadium. But what's the point having a 60,000 seater ground with only 30,000 fan's and a team performing weakly.
Shankly always advocated spending on the team before the ground.
Once you have a good team, we can fill the ground whatever size, even 80,000.
In todays game where players are determining who they will play with, my feeling is that if we have to choose between players and a new Anfield, then let's get on a roll with a good team and attract more of the top players, then follow with the ground.

Ask the fans of Wolves , Sunderland , etc if they would have liked money used by their clubs spent on the stadium or the team

Sunderland has a great stadium 49,000 capacity , :D  :D  :D  what for ?

Good points Woof Woof, and there is no shortage of passion in Sunderland. Just a lack of a decent Football Team. A similar thing could happen here if we were not careful.

Great thread.  Personally I would say we'd be better off investing in a stadium.  A bigger STadium would bring in more capital that would no doudt be invested on the field, but also allow us to raise our weekly wage budget too.

Buying players as we all no does not neceserilly gaurantee sucess, but when a new manager comes in he should be given the chance to spend at least 50m over the next three years to try and get the title.

The gaffa has done everything right so far.  He has given EvERYONE a chance and then weeded out the players that he is not too sure on, whether its a sale or loan i.e. Heskey, Cheyrou, Le Tallec.  Youngsters have been given a long overdue chance and im sure come the summer we will make about 10m on sales and invest at least 20m on top of the 10m spent in january.

Come January i can see him signing a striker and it may well be Anelka (Sign) or Fowler (Loan) as they could both play in Europe.  I also think he may get a defender, possibly Collocini?! (young argentine from Milan).

Personally i feal from the Villa game that we just need one more main striker who can kill games off and a defender to be bed in ready for a strong assualt next season.

Great performance Wed night, i eat my words, thought we were done come half time.

Things are really going wellperformance wise too, lets not forget the defensive football we used to play not so long ago.  Last saturday was all out attack away from home, now we never used to see that last season.

After today's Derby game, I am more than ever  convinced that we need to spend as much money as we can muster on three or four 'Star' players. Not just promising players, but some ready made 'driller killers', two forwards, a left sided player a defender and possibly a goalkeeper. If we carry on as we are, we will lucky to finish mid-table.
The Stadium can go no hold for me until we have a team that 'nails' the opposition. I am fed-up of failing against mediocre opposition. We need Morgan or L4 to inject the £/$ urgently.
My only worry is can we trust Rafa to spend wisely ?

I am a bit concerned over Josemi, he is getting a roasting every week now. Hibbert was the latest to 'Jose' him down. Is he going to pull out of this bad form ?
Of all Rafa's purchases, only Alonso is really impressing !!

The impetus of some new funding in time for the 'January Sales' could kick start our season in the league. It will be extremely interesting to see where the management priorities lie.
Will the club be hamstrung by 'boardroom infighting' or will the club emerge from this period of disruption with a clear direction ?
Has Rafa finanlised his plan, does he know the players that he requires to complete his squad ? Will the Board back him ?
My feeling is that we are entering a critical phase in the re-development of the club.

WHEN MICHAEL OWEN was still wearing the red shirt Liverpool were known as a two-man team, writes The People.
Now they're a totally one-man show - and more vulnerable than ever.
Forget a swanky new ground, heavy new investment and the prospect of a trip to the bank vault for Rafael Benitez.
Because if Steven Gerrard decides to kop the £120,000 a week said to be on offer at Stamford Bridge next summer then Liverpool truly will be up the Mersey without a paddle.

The above article from the LFC website, encapsulates the argument:
Why have a new Stadium, if we do not have a decent team to play in the new ground. We have lost Owen, we are losing Gerrard, we need to go out and purchase some big-time replacements who are proven Winners, The money must be invested in the Team.

yeah...i think the whole stadium issue is going a bit out of hand.

1)Arsenal is getting anew stadium so should we ....
2)The scums have 60,000 fans, so should we ....

we should concerntrate on our own team 1st. Is it so necessary to move to a new stadium at the expense of david moores (who has been great to all the previous managers).

I can't help but think that morgan will become the next doug eilias.

Lemme analyze for u:

New stadium = bigger capacity = £0.5million increase in gate receipts
Estimated home matches per season = 19(premier) + 8(for Carling, FA cup games) + 6(CL) = 33

£0.5million x 37 = £16.5million per season!
And that is a conservative estimate.....

Spot on polygemus.

We need the stadium to move forward.  I cant understand the people that say we need to get things right on the pitch first.  NO we need income first, then we go out and buy the BEST, we DONT run up a huge wage bill and do a Leeds United  (huge club that have messed up).

We have bought bought and bought under souey, evans, and houllier, we must change our ways and trust benni.  At the mo he is giving everyone a chance, come January he will strengthen and we will see a much stronger second half of the season.

Stop moaning and get behind your team.
